Report Strong westerly winds have made the fishing difficult during the day this last week along with yet more rain!. Most of the fish have been caught later on in the day when the wind has dropped off. Reservoir levels have still remained high and the water temperature is a steady 19 degrees. Many fisherman have taken advantage of the wind drifting loch style across the reservoir, lures on sinking lines producing the best results,
those fishing traditionally finding it harder until the very late evening.
Honours for top rainbow this week go to Steve Camps with a specimen weighing 4lb 8oz, top brown was caught by Daniel Hunt at 2lb 10 oz.
A reminder to everyone that this week from until the 25th July, fishing during the hours 8.30am to 17.30pm will be restricted to the northern part of the reservoir past the line of orange bouys. This is due to Carsington Water hosting the NNSA’s National Junior Sailing Regatta. After 17.30 pm normal fishing limits resume.

To say that we have had a bit of rain this last week would be an understatement! Many fishermen enduring mini-monsoons that have swept across the reservoir during the week, this has made the fishing challenging to say the least. The reservoir levels have remained stable and the temperature of the water has now risen to 19 degrees. The wind has been coming from our normally predominant South to South West direction. The warmer water temperatures mean the fish are moving away from the margins during the day and fish are starting to be picked up by drifting across the centre of the reservoir
A T Baggaley from Lowdham caught this week’s best brown that weighed in at 3lb 12 oz. Mr Baggaley caught his fish using a tadpole on a sinking line whilst drifting across the centre. Mr Hyde from Whitefield took the best rainbow weighing in at 4lb 12oz caught on a buzzer.
A reminder to everyone that from 20th July to 25th July, fishing during the hours 8.30am to 17.30pm will be restricted to the northern part of the reservoir past the line of orange bouys. This is due to Carsington Water hosting the NNSA’s National Junior Sailing Regatta. We have and will be however, stocking heavily in this area prior to the event.

The weather has been very unseasonal again this week with some sun and plenty of rain! The reservoir has risen slightly and the temperature of the water has crept up to 17 degrees. Despite the weather there have been plenty of rising fish and the wind lanes and scum lanes have been good target area’s to fish. Also the shore the wind is blowing off of has provided some top of the water sport to terrestrials and sedges. There are a few soldier beetles around as well as damsels and the longhorn sedge on the water now. There are also plenty of small fry in the water and the weed beds that are starting to grow will hold plenty of these little fry which in turn will attract the larger hungry trout!
R Compton from Chorley caught this week’s best brown a cracking fish that weighed in at 5lb this was the best of 6 fish for Mr Compton. Mr A Stevens from Matlock took the best rainbow at a superb 4lb 6oz the best of 3 fish from half a day. Unfortunately neither angler noted where they caught or what fly they used on their returns.
We will be holding our Open Day with the England Ladies Team here at Carsington Water on Sunday August 3rd. I would also like to make the following announcement again.
From the 20th to the 25th July (inclusive) Carsington Water is proud to be
hosting the NSSA's National Junior Sailing Regatta. This event is expected
to attract some 250 boats to race on Carsington Water. In the interests of
safety and mutual co-operation due to the large number of boats that will
be racing during the week, fishing will be restricted to the North end of
the reservoir beyond the line of large orange buoys between the hours of
8am and 5.30pm.
Thanking you for your co-operation in advance.

Report.
It has been a mixed bag of weather this week. We have had some sunshine, some rain and wind from almost every point on the compass. The water temperature has dropped a degree to 15 degrees. The long horn sedge’s are still hatching well as are the Damsels. There are also pin fry in the water now and they can often be seen alongside the jetty and will be present wherever there is a weed bed. The fishing has been up and down with the weather, some days the fish have been up top and feeding and other days they have been sulking in the depths. It has certainly paid to try a huge range of depths to find them. The fish have also spread out well now and are even being found out across the middle of the reservoir, so covering as much water as possible has also paid dividends.
Top rainbow this week goes to Iain Lyndsay who tempted a superb 5lb 3oz fish with an orange blob. Iain was fishing across the mouth of Brown Ale Bay with a floating line with an orange blob on the top dropper and nymphs on the middle and point. He was retrieving his flies with steady pulls when this monster snatched the blob and took off.
Best Brown this week goes to John Parnham who landed a long lean fish of 3lb 10oz. John’s cracking grown on brown fell to a damsel fished on a floating line whlist drift the bank at Hall Wood.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Millfields Bay, Brown Ale Bay and Half Moon Field from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.
The best flies were Damsel nymphs, Buzzers, Soldier Palmer, Diawl Bach, Dabblers, Cormorants, Orange Blob and Cats Whisker’s.

The Wind started in the West swung to the South for the mid part of the week and back round to the West again by the end of the week. There has been a mixture of cloudy days and very bright days this week which, which combined with the changeable winds has made the fishing more challenging. The water temperature remains at 16 degrees and there is still plenty of insects hatching on the reservoir. Along with the multitudes of buzzers the long horn sedge are hatching now as well as the Damsels & Olives.
The honours for best Rainbow this week are shared by Mr P Wigglesworth & Richard Waldouh. Both Landed Cracking rainbows of 4lb 8 oz. Mr Wigglesworth caught his trout from a boat at the Dam Wall using a gold head damsel on a floating line. He was retrieving his flies with a steady pull when his fish grabbed the damsel and tore off with it.
Richard Waldouh caught his cracker in Brown Ale bay where he was drifting a team of black buzzers round on the breeze.
Best Brown this week goes to Mr G Reid, he landed a superb fully finned brown of 3lb 3oz. Mr Reid was fishing in Sheepwash Bay where he was also drifting buzzers on a floating line. His flies were just coming round on the breeze when the line straitened and he was in! It was several arm aching minutes later before his prize fish was safely in the boat.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Sheepwash, Brown Ale Bay and The Dam Wall from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.

Report.
Well it finally feels a bit like summer! The water is warming up now with the thermometer on the jetty showing 16 degrees at 6ft. The Winds have mainly been from the West and not too strong. There are plenty of Lake Olives hatching and a few Damsels, there have even been some Mayfly (should really be called Junefly I think!) and the sedges are starting to come of an evening. The first of the pin fry have been seen and discovered in the stomach contents of a few fish as well. The Fish have started to spread out from the margins and particularly along the Western Bank the fish have been a good distance out.
Slow relaxed fishing is really the key at the moment, with buzzers and nymphs accounting for most of the fish. Fish the buzzers on as long a leader as you can manage, the longer the better, and just leave them absolutely static or just the slowest of figure 8’s just to keep in touch with them. Nymphs have worked best fished on an intermediate or a sink tip line and again just a slow figure of eight for the retrieve.
Best rainbow for the last two weeks goes to Mr P Hind who landed a superb 5lb 1oz rainbow. Mr Hind tempted the trout with a green buzzer fished static under a bung in Sheepwash Bay.
The Best Brown Goes to Ross Dyer-Smith who caught a stunning 5lb grown on Brown from Brown Ale Bay. This cracking fish fell to a Gold Head Hares Ear fished on a floating line and just left to drift round on the breeze.
There have also been several good Rudd (to 2lb 8oz) on the returns as well as one Perch this last couple of weeks.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Sheepwash, Oldfields Lane and Shinningford Creek from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.

The wind continues to be predominately from the east, and with lower temperatures this week it has been quite ‘nippy’ out on the water. The water temperature has remained at 14°C. Tuesday 13th May proved to be very windy, a north easterlie blowing force 6/7 so much so that it was unsafe to let any boats out.
Again several hatches a day of black buzzers and small midges have been abound. Fish have been caught pretty much everywhere this week using a variety of methods from sink lines with lures to slow retrieve floating lines with buzzers, the latter still appearing to be the most successful.
Carsington stalwarts John Scragg and Brain Nadine had a successful day on Saturday landing 57 fish to the boat between them. John taking a 4lb 6 oz rainbow using a floating line with a black buzzer, Brian also having a similar size fish at 4lb 4oz

Although the weather has remained cold and breezy there has been plently of buzzers hatching off of the water and the fishing has been good. The swallows (yes they are here! So summer has officially begun!) and the martins have been busy skimming the waters surface feeding on the insects coming off. The trout have also been taking advantage of the hatching insects and the best tactic’s this week have been; static buzzers, allowed just to drift on a floating line and diawl bach’s/ small nymphs on midge tip or ghost tip lines just moved with a slow figure of eight.
The honours for the best rainbow this week are shared between Paul Bebb and John Smith who both landed cracking fish of 5lb each. Paul Bebb took his fish on a black buzzer whilst drifting off Sitch Plantation, while John Smith caught his on a red buzzer under an indicator from Tower Bank.
A superb brown trout weighing in at 3lb was the best brown of the week. It was caught by regular angler John Scragg, John was also using a red buzzer and was fishing in a boat off the East Bank at Half Moon Field when his stunning grown on brown was tempted to take his fly.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Sheepwash, Half Moon Feild and Oldfields Lane from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.

Well the unseasonable weather continues across the country bringing numb fingers and wind burnt faces to anglers everywhere! The winds at Carsington Water have remained mainly from the north or the west and the water temperature has been around 6 degrees.
Regular angler Brian Nadin landed this week’s best rainbow, a lovely full finned fish of 5lb 2oz. Brian was anchored up in the shelter of Tower Bank fishing one of his favoured methods at Carsington, a team of buzzers fished on an intermediate line and retrieved with a slow figure 8. When he hooked his prize fish everything went solid and then went tearing away taking line from his reel. It was not until several mintues of fighting had passed that Brian was able to get the net under the fish and bring it safely aboard his boat.
The Best Brown this week fell to another regular, Brian Cupples. Brian was fishing from a boat in Sheepwash using a black & green lure on a medium sink line and was retrieving with steady pulls of about 2ft. His best brown was a superb over wintered fish weighing in at 2lb 8oz and was the second brown of the day for Brian. He also landed 8 rainbows giving him a cracking total of ten fish for the day.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Sheepwash, Millfields Bay and Fishtail Creek from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.

Report.
Despite it being another cold and occasionally snowy week Carsington Water has fished well. The winds have mainly been from the north or the west with the best of the temperatures getting up to about 15 degrees although it definitely felt colder than that! Even so there have good numbers of midge hatching whenever the wind dropped a bit.
The best rainbow this week is an unofficial Fishery Record! This stunning 7lb over wintered rainbow trout fell to James Tearle, who was fishing on a catch & release ticket, he weighed it in his weigh net and returned it to the water to fight another day. James was fishing a floating line with a team of black buzzers off the front edge of North Island when he felt the fish take. As he tightened into the take and the fish took off he realised he was into a good fish. The trout lead James a merry dance before eventually succumbing to the net. Well done to James, not bad for your first day out of the season!
The Best Brown this week goes to Ian Ritchie. This was another cracking grown on, over wintered trout weighing in at 3lb 8oz. Ian was also fishing a team of buzzers on a floating line, and he was using a bung and a very supple leader to allow the buzzers to drift about in a very natural manner. As Ian and his boat partner Paul Bebb were drifting along Tower Bank when Ian’s bung disappeared under the surface and he struck! Ian’s rod then bent over hard as the Brownie made a dash for deeper water. After a hard fought battle Ian finally brought the trout to the boat to be netted before returning it.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, North Island, Fishtail Creek and Stones Island from the boats and Millfields Point and Upperfields Bay from the bank.
The best flies were Black Buzzers, Black & Green lures, Montana’s, and Damsel nymphs.

Well So much for the old adage of March coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb! Opening day started with a howling Northerly, which was blowing steady 30 mph and gusting 55mph, and crashing waves making for such atrocious conditions that we were unable to let the boats out. Despite these appalling conditions there were some hardy souls who fished on the bank and were rewarded with some lovely trout.
Mr J Finneran had the best of opening day catching his bag limit of 6 and then returning 3 other fish including a lovely 2lb brown which took a small black lure in Millfields Bay. Mr Finneran was back on Monday 24th when conditions were better and had another superb day landing a total of 20 fish including 5 brown trout. The best brown was a superb grown on fish of 4lb and is the best brown trout of the week. Most of his fish took an olive lure fished on an intermediate line.
The best rainbow this week goes to Philip Hill who landed a cracking 4lb 9oz rainbow trout. This was the best fish from a total of 10 for the day. Philip was fishing along Tower Bank from a boat using an orange blob on a sinking line and retrieving quite quickly. This method accounted for almost his entire bag.
Top spots for the week were Tower Bank, Millfields Bay to Millfields Point, Watersports Island and Stones Island.
