Mr Terry Davies returned one at 8lbs 00ozs , Mr Heathcote put a nine pounder back and Mr Eugene Hughes of North London caught and released one estimated to be10lbs 00ozs from near Farborough Spit fishing a Montana Nymph on an intermediate line.

Mr Steve Brown of Long Lawford, Rugby weighed in with 24lbs 12ozs from near to Farborough Dam. Mr R Cooper had eight for 24lbs 10ozs. Mr Rod Wilson's bag weighed 23lbs 4ozs.

Comments : Some nice bags of fish taken from both bank and boats. Mr Bob Wallinger has been getting into the early season daphnia feeders, but the best bag has been recorded by Leicester boat angler Mr Rod Wilson with eight fish weighing 26lbs 12ozs. All came to the Tube Fly behind the boat. Heaviest rainbow was 7lbs 12ozs to Birmingham bank angler Mr Steve Owen. From the boats Mr Derek Bolton of Shustoke took one weighing 7lbs 8ozs. Mr Anthony Say of South Wales lost one in excess of 10lbs 00ozs - the ones that get away are still the biggest! Dunn's Bay and the Cornfield have been the best areas from the bank. From the boats Biggin Bay and the Cornfield have been the best. again the areas have been dictated by the strong wind directions. Weighted Black Buzzer and Pheasant Tail Nymph have worked well from the bank, but small lures are still going strong and black and green is the most popular colour. From the boats it is the small lures that are best near the edge and then the big lures out in the open water.

Mr Daniel Brackley of Rugby boated one at 8lbs 00ozs near to Farborough Dam and in the same boat his father Lee took a 6lbs 13ozs in an eight fish limit weighing 23lbs 8ozs. Coventry bank angler Mr Mike Nolan caught and returned again one at 7lbs 00ozs. Besides the rainbows there have been quite a few browns caught and returned again. Mr Rod Wilson of Leicester boated an 8lbs 00ozs fish and a few at 3lbs 00ozs, Mr Eric Whale of Coventry had an 8lbs 00ozs and a 5lbs 00ozs to the boat, also boat fishing Mr Dave Loughan of Lutterworth had one at 7lbs 00ozs.. From the boats Biggin Bay, Hensborough Bank and Toft Bay have been the most productive. A few more fish came to the Buzzer this week, but it is still mostly the small lures such as Damsel Gold Head, Green Pea, Montana Nymph and Cats Whisker which are taking the most fish. Comments : The week's heaviest eight fish bag weighed 29lbs 8ozs and was taken by Coventry bank angler Mr Keith Jones. His best fish was a cracking overwintered 9lbs 8ozs and he took another two over four pounds. All came to a small Orange Lure. Mr Mick Cronin, Banbury bank angler also caught some overwintered fish including one at 10lbs 00ozs and one at 6lbs 14ozs. Mick returned his fish, but estimated eight would have easily weighed 26lbs 00ozs. From the boats Mr Rod Wilson of Leicester recorded eight fish for 29lbs 2ozs all coming to the Tube Fly. Week's best rainbow at 9lbs 9ozs was taken by Mr Jack Dixon, Warwick boat angler. Other nice rainbows included a 7lbs 12ozs to Mr Dave Critchlow of the Potteries, 7lbs 8ozs to Mr John Blackband of Warwick and a six pounder to Mr Mike Bennett. Each day there have reports of a brown or two caught. Mr Rod Wilson returned one at 6lbs 8ozs from the boat. Comments : 7lbs 4ozs was the heaviest rainbow to Leicester boat angler Mr Bob Eaton. Mr Will Rodgers took one at 6lbs 3ozs from the bank and Mr Mark Sturgess of Nuneaton and Mr Bill Sedgely of Dunchurch both banked six pounders. Mr Harold Pritchett of Atherstone (and local angling correspondent) showed everyone the way to do it from the bank with a tremendous eight fish limit bag weighing 20lbs 8ozs. this was a big achievement on a bitterly cold and wind swept day. Needless to say the best areas were the sheltered parts of the water at Rainbow Corner, The Flat Stones and Dunn's Bay. Patterns varied quite a bit. Tube Fly was working from the boats and Buzzer accounted for a few of the fish, but it was mostly the pulling patterns fished deeper and retrieved smartly which were most successful. Montana Nymph, Green Pea, Cats Whisker and Bunny Leach worked well.

Comments : The season ended on a high note with lots of big fish caught during September and October. It might also be remembered for the large numbers of browns caught from May onwards. There have probably been in excess of one thousand browns caught and returned again which is quite remarkable when one considers that there are only small numbers of the fish stocked each year and at a young age. Sunday 20th May Mr Eric Whale, Coventry boat angler recorded the heaviest eight fish limit. The overwintered rainbows weighed in at 36lbs 00ozs. Monday 8th October Mr Mike Edkins of Meriden recorded the best brown of the year at 10lbs 2ozs and although it was taken out of season he was able to get it into the boat, weigh it and return it again safely to the water. Friday 19th October Coventry pensioner Mr Ken Rawlings caught the 14lbs 14ozs rainbow from the bank.
