A truly European feel came to the fishery this week as Eyebrook hosted The Lexus European Fly Fishing Championships held over two days, and as usual organiser John Horsey ran a very slick show. Competitors from the Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Scotland and the Home Counties took part.
On the first day’s competition most of the anglers opted to fish with intermediate lines and Orange Blobs, the choice fly. Fishing was good, and a great start to the event with 136 Rainbows caught with an average weight of 2lb 4oz, a rod average of 4.86. The winner on the first day was Christian Bazan of Belgium, with Gerallt Hughes of Wales runner up.
Unfortunately the wind increased for the Floating Line Competition on day two, but the competitors were not fazed by the weather conditions and even managed to increase the average size of fish caught to 2lb 5oz. The winner of the Floating Line Competition was Ian Barr of Peterborough who fished his own style of Orange Blobs to devastating effect.
Congratulations to all who qualified, and to all who participated and made this a terrific event.
Danny Peet of Sheffield and Brian Frith of Nottingham boat fished Stoke Dry shallows with CDC Emergers and both anglers enjoyed some terrific sport, the pair taking eleven quality Rainbows that weighed 28lb 3oz. Danny returned to the fishery alone the following day and replicated his catch, again using CDC Emergers.
Alan Whittaker of Nether Whitaker enjoyed some fantastic bank fishing along Sams Dyke earlier this week where he took seven cracking Rainbows that weighed 18lb 8oz. Alan has visited the fishery on several more occasions since and has had limit bags on his own tied CDC Emergers.
Top fly patterns that are catching at present are Natural or Black CDC Emergers, Daddies, Green Hoppers, Standard Yellow Invicta and Silver Invicta.

Another fantastic week at Eyebrook that has produced some astounding Top of the Water action, despite some pretty poor weather conditions.
Colin and Ian Purdom of Shotesham had a cracking days boat fishing drifting from The Island and Mucky Bay. The father and son duo who prefer to fish with the old style silk fly lines took twelve splendid Rainbows that tipped the scales to 28lb 11oz, all the pairs fish were taken on Diawl Bach and Pheasant Tail Nymph.
Traditional wet flies were the undoing of seven cracking Rainbows that fell to the rod of Peter Cliff of Spalding while boat fishing The Main Basin, Peters fish weighed in at 17lb.
The main event of the week was The Eyebrook Floating Line Competition presented by Stuart and Sue Illsley, proprietors of The Eyebrook Tackle Shop, the proceeds of which were donated to Prostate Cancer Research.
Competitors enjoyed a great day afloat with some fantastic top of the water action as well as a first class Barbeque lunch; the eventual winner of the competition was Jayne Alecock of Peterborough who caught seven Rainbows that weighed 18lb 4oz, Jayne caught her fish drifting with Irish wet flies.
Brian Skey of Aldwinkle and Tony Speakman of Fazely anchored their boats at The Stoke Dry end and each took limit bags on Diawl Bach fished on floating lines.
Season ticket holders Mick and Sue Knights of Ipswich took four superb Rainbows when they took their boat on the drift across The Main Basin; Mick and Sue’s fish fell to Orange Boobies fished fast on the surface.
Stuart Bilsdon of Uppingham accompanied his boat partner Tony Tibbert of Hambleton and enjoyed a cracking days sport on the drift to take twelve quality Rainbows for 28lb 6oz, all the pairs fish were taken on Daddies, Hoppers and CDC Emergers.

What a difference a week makes!! “Top of the Water” action returns to Eyebrook. Dry fly patterns such as CDC Emergers, Hoppers and Daddies are accounting for good numbers of quality grown on Rainbows and Brown Trout, resulting in tremendous sport for anglers.
Dr Ken Webb of Norwich enjoyed a day afloat earlier in the week and took eight Rainbows for 21lb on CDC Emergers and Bobs Bits from The Cowshed area; Ken described his day’s fishing as “ simply superb”.
Grzegorz Golofit and Chris Szachnowicz of Corby also enjoyed their boat session with several quality Rainbows taken on Emerger dry fly patterns. Dave and Marion Minard of Lincoln boat fished at The Chestnut Tree and took five Rainbows on Black Buzzers, Diawl Bach and CDC Emergers.
Mike Firth and Arthur Whale of County Durham visited the fishery on a 3-Day Special and fished CDC Emergers to take numerous quality Rainbows from The Stoke Dry shallows.
David Wickham of Hygiene Solutions, Corby, entertained Todd Wichmann of Ohio, USA, the pair enjoyed an afternoon boat session and Todd caught a fine 3lb Rainbow on a Damsel Nymph.
< 14 size a on fish his of all took Tony 10oz, 20lb to scales the tipped that Rainbows cracking eight landed and boat margins Cowshed The fished Staffs Fazely Speakman>
Another tactic that has been producing fish recently, and well worth a try is short lining or loch style fishing with traditional wets such as Soldier Palmers, Bibio’s, Wingless Wickham and Silver Invicta.
Weed cutting operations are well underway at the fishery, with most of the bank now well accessible for bank fishing.
Novice angler Marcus Ainsworth of Market Harborough fished the bank at The Bell and caught three nice Rainbows, two taken on a Daddy Long Legs and one on a Mayfly Nymph.
The Eyebrook Trout Fishery Floating Line Day will be held on Thursday 10th July 2008 to help raise funds for Prostate Cancer Research. This competition will be fished to international rules from drifting boats. Entry fee is £50.00 which includes a Bar ‘b’ Q Lunch. Fishing 10am-1pm/3pm-8pm.

Fishing conditions remain challenging at The Welland Valley beauty spot and persistent cool Northerly winds do nothing to help the anglers cause. Hopefully, with continued weekly stockings of quality Rainbows, it will only be a matter of time before the fishery begins to perform again.
The Cowshed area has proved to be the hotspot during the last week, Bob Green and Pete Hurren of Norfolk enjoyed some thrilling boat action at the weekend. Bob took five fine Rainbows on Damsel, Pheasant Tail and Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymphs. The five fish tipped the scales to 11lb 13oz; Pete also took a nice brace for 4lb 8oz.
Paul Slatcher and Ken Fox both of Leicester enjoyed a day afloat and also fished The Cowshed area taking several quality Rainbows on Damsel Nymphs. Brian Skey of Aldwinkle fished the same area with size 14 Diawl Bach fished on a floating line and took five quality Rainbows that weighed 11lb 13oz, Brian caught and released another four Rainbows.
The Eyebrook played host to the North East Police Regional Fly Fishing Championships Eliminator mid week. Forty-five anglers enjoyed hospitality at the fishery and although the fishing was certainly not at its best the event was enjoyed by most competitors.

With the combination of both an influx of heavy rainfall late last week, and an over productive reservoir eco system which now includes vast number of Pin Fry, fishing conditions are presently very challenging at Eyebrook.
The Eyebrook residents are gorging themselves on Pin fry, Damsel Nymphs and Chironomid and are reluctant to accept the angler’s meagre offerings. Another major factor has been the good old unsettled English weather! But despite the odds, a handful of hardy anglers have continued to catch.
Roy Bennett and Mick Groom of Leicester enjoyed a day afloat, Roy took six fine Rainbows for 12lb 10oz and Mick practised his usual catch and release to take seven superbly conditioned Rainbows on CDC Emergers, off the top.
The English Disabled Fly Fishing Association enjoyed mixed fortunes in their Floating Line Competition mid week, as did The Norfolk Branch of The Salmon and Trout Association, both events were enjoyed by all who attended.
Brian Skey of Aldwinkle boat fished at Norris Dyke and took eight quality Rainbows on Diawl Bach, Brians eight fish weighed 20lb 9oz
.
Tony Speakman of Fazely, Staffs took six fine Rainbows for 17lb 6oz, this bag of fish included a 5lb 6oz specimen. Tony fished at anchor at The Willows with a size 14 Crunchers on a floating line
.
Dave and Inez Buxton of Northampton fished the indicator with Buzzers to take seven superbly conditioned Rainbows that weighed 18lb 3oz from The Cowshed area
.
Gary Wakefield of Ely boat fished at The Black Cabin and took eight Rainbows that tipped the scales to 22lb 8oz; Gary fished a Damsel Nymph and Buzzers.
John Rose of Leicester anchored his boat at The Cowshed and took eight Rainbows on Damsel Nymph and CDC Emergers that weighed 18lb 8oz.

The week culminated with The England Ladies Fly-fishing Association Eyebrook Pairs Match that was raising funds for the 2008 ladies team to compete in The Ladies Home International in Scotland on the Lake of Menteith.
Although the fishing conditions looked favourable for the match, the fishing proved to be not at all easy, but the anglers stuck to their tactics and the fish that were caught were in cracking condition, averaging 2lb 8oz, a total of thirty rods caught sixty-one fish.
The Individual winner was Mike Barrett with six Rainbows that weighed in at 15lb 10oz, Mike also shared the winners position for the pairs with Elaine Sherry, the pair accumulating ten fish for 24lb 13oz. The prize for the heaviest Rainbow of the match went to Rose Mawer, a cracking fish of 5lb 11oz.
There were mixed fortunes for boat anglers on the “Brook” during last week. Gordon Price and Nobby Clark, both of Leicester anchored their boat at The Willows to take eight fine Rainbows for 20lb, the pair fished Black and Green Tadpoles.
It has been a very productive week for bank anglers, and The Willows area has proved to be the hotspot for several anglers, amongst them was Pete Smith of Uppingham who took eight fine Rainbows on a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph. Dave Mitchell of Cottingham also took advantage of the sport at The Willows and used a home tied Green Cruncher to devastating effect to take eight fish that tipped the scales to 17lb 4oz.
Lionel Wesson of Oakham took four good fish on a Green and White Cats Whisker, Lionel’s four fish weighed 10lb 10oz.
George Knight of Stanion, used his home tied Damsel Imitation to great effect to take four Rainbows for 10lb 8oz from The Willows, this fly incidentally was the same pattern that George caught his record Eyebrook Rainbow Trout of 20lb 13oz on in 2004.
Damsel Nymphs are now prolific at the fishery and a Damsel Imitation is a must have. Black or Dark Green Buzzers are taking their share, fished conventionally or under a bite indicator, as are Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymphs that are being taken for Lake Olive Nymphs.
The Eyebrook Trout Fishery and The Eyebrook Tackle Shop will be attending The CLA Gamefair at Blenheim Palace on 25th-27th July 2008, “Weather Permitting” a great event, and not to be missed.

Continuous weekly stockings of quality Rainbow Trout are ensuring superb sport for both bank and boat anglers alike at Eyebrook Trout Fishery.
Jim Doyle of Ferry Fly Dressers led his party of fourteen anglers who enjoyed some wonderful boat fishing sport in Sams Dyke. Fishing in a brisk easterly wind, the lads caught quality Rainbow Trout on numerous methods, the most successful being floating midge tip lines with bright competition lures and Diawl Bach or Buzzers.
Ian Shobbrook and Ray Quinney of Nuneaton enjoyed a top day at the fishery and took sixteen Rainbows and returned six more on the washing line method with Black Buzzers.

The Corus Marketing Department held their first corporate fishing event of the year and thirty invited guests enjoyed hospitality, and some great fishing. The eventual winner on the day was Mark Jenkins who took a limit bag that weighed 17lb 11oz.
Nick Stubbs of Hereford made a welcome return to the Eyebrook last week accompanied by his good friend Harry Spencer of Empingham. Nick is the current holder of the Eyebrook Brown Trout record, a fantastic fish that weighed 11lb 4oz. Nick’s record Brownie was caught way back in 1955, Nick and Harry reminisced and enjoyed a wonderful day afloat at The Chestnut Tree area and took some super Rainbows on Black Buzzers fished on the bung.
John Punt of Leicester accompanied by his regular boat partner Andy Gallagher enjoyed some great sport anchored at Pollards Jump. John took eight super Rainbows, including specimens that weighed 5lb 12oz and 4lb 7oz, Johns total bag weight was 26lb. Andy also took three fine fish for 8lb. The Leicester duo fished with Intermediate lines and Cats Whisker lures.
Bank fishing too has been producing some wonderful sport in recent weeks and with the persistent northeasterly wind The Willows has proved to be the best area along with Sams Dyke.
Wally Ogley of Yaxley took eight Rainbows for 18lb 7oz on Black Buzzers including a 4lb 5oz specimen.
Stuart Arthur’s of Burton Lattimer also took eight Rainbows for 18lb 9oz and returned six more. Stuart’s heaviest fish tipped the scales to 4lb 15oz, and all of his fish were caught on Damsels fished on a floating line.

The accolades just keep coming in, Buzzer fishing at its very best! That’s how visiting anglers are describing the fishing at Eyebrook in recent weeks.
This week’s sport culminated in a boat-fishing match organised by Roundhill Masonic Lodge 8639, to raise funds for the 2012 Festival Appeal. Members and guests were treated to some wonderful sport at the Eyebrook and organiser of the event Dave Carter thanked all the fishery staff for their hospitality on the day.

Runners up with 28lb 11oz were Mike Duxbury and his boat partner Mr Diamond who won a day out for two with a motor boat at the Eyebrook Fishery.
Derek Edwards and brother Terry from Dolgellau, North Wales spent 3 days at the fishery and enjoyed some excellent boat fishing on the Buzzer.
Season ticket holders Clive Moore of Cottingham and Jeff Summerfield of Oakley notched up a real Red Letter Day, mid week, whilst boat fishing in Sams Dyke. The pair fished with Buzzers, Hares Ear Nymphs and Diawl Bach, as well as various wet fly patterns such as Wingless Wickhams and Kate McKlaren to take eight fish each, as well as returning around forty quality Rainbows under catch and release rules.
Mike Blee of Seaton entertained his guests at Eyebrook, who enjoyed some fantastic sport in Sams Dyke on Black Buzzers and Diawl Bach.
Alan and Tracey Cragg from Crewe enjoyed 3 days of frenetic fishing in Sams Dyke, the pair taking most of their fish on a home tied Buzzer pattern made by Tracey.
Paul Clarke visited the fishery from Glasgow and took a fine bag of eight fish, which tipped the scales to 24lb 8oz; Paul took all of his fish from The Chestnut Tree area on Black Buzzers.

The arrival of a somewhat early summer with some searing temperatures would normally not be conducive to trout fishing, but surprisingly the Eyebrook has fished very well and delivered the goods once again.
Dennis Maltby of Woodall Spa, Lincs, caught the heaviest fish of the week at exactly 10lb. Dennis fished with his boat partner of many years Norman Thompson of Billinghay. The Eyebrook veterans fished at anchor at The Willows with Black Buzzers fished on floating lines, Dennis commented that the 10 pounder was his biggest and best fish he had ever caught at Eyebrook and on several occasions the fish had him down to his backing line with some searing runs, the specimen was carefully returned to the water. The Lincolnshire lads also took sixteen superb Rainbows for a bag weight of 35lb.
It has been a week for visits by old friends on short fishing breaks, the lads from Thryburgh, Rotherham visited last weekend and enjoyed some great boat fishing, mostly to Black Buzzers fished on the Bung or Indicator.
Visiting the fishery for the 15th year was Norma and Alec Cruickshank from Ellen, Aberdeenshire who enjoyed the warm weather and hospitality as well as some superb fishing thrown in for good measure.
Andrew Taylor, Dave Millard, Guy and Richard Vasey from York also enjoyed some brilliant fishing, Andrew and Dave enjoying a real Red Letter Day with thirty-six quality Rainbows to the boat caught on Black Buzzers.
Nottinghamshire Police Fly Fishing Section also enjoyed frenetic sport on the Buzzer. Seventeen anglers took seventy fish, a healthy rod average of four. Top rod on the day was Keith Wilkinson with eight Rainbows for 20lb 11oz, and Keith’s bag included a nice 3lb 13oz specimen.
Two more Nottingham boys Bob Carnill and Dennis Dickens had another great day afloat, fishing skinny Epoxy Buzzers, the pair took fourteen fish and Bob caught his biggest ever Eyebrook Rainbow at 8lb 6oz.
Leicester likely lads Ceth Mauger and John Rose continue to wreak havoc with the Eyebrook Rainbows regularly taking bag limits on Black Buzzers and Black and Green Tadpoles.
I recently enjoyed an afternoon afloat with Senior Fishery Warden Dawn Milson. We anchored at The Willows and had some brilliant sport, Dawn catching on Black and Green tadpoles while I fished Orange Snatchers on floating lines. We both fished to catch and release rules, Dawn returning fish weighing 6lb and 4lb, the Eyebrook does offer some great fishing, but then I am biased.
Top fly patterns at the moment are Black Epoxy Buzzers, Diawl Bach, Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph, Snatchers, Pheasant Tail Nymph, and Black and Green Tadpoles.

Droves of visitors from North of the border enjoyed cracking boat fishing sport at Eyebrook during the past week, and can’t wait to return for more! Several parties of anglers from Scotland have visited the fishery during the last few weeks amongst them were Colin McGlone, Gary Haggart, Glen Lockley, Stewart Burke and Tony Bennell. The lads from Fife enjoyed some terrific sport and caught and released good numbers of quality Rainbows fishing floating and intermediate lines with Diawl Bach and Buzzers at The Stoke Dry end. Martha Thomson of Corby accompanied by her friend Louise Callow shared a half day boat and headed to The Stoke Dry area and fished a DI 7 sinking line with a Black and Green Blob, Martha soon connected with a good fish that took her down to her backing line with several searing runs. It was only apparent when the fish was finally netted that Martha had a real specimen Rainbow in tip top condition, and when it was bought to the fishing lodge to be officially weighed, tipped the scales to 8lb 9oz, well done Martha. Bob Carnill of Nottingham took his friend Tony Storey for a day afloat at the “Brook”. The duo fished with floating lines and long shanked Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymphs on the point with Epoxy Black Buzzers on the droppers to take two limit bags of superb quality Rainbows, the heaviest fish falling to Tony at 5lb 10oz. A major fund raising event was held at the latter end of 2007, The Tweed Foundation Charity Auction, The WheelyBoat Trust Tweed Boat Appeal. Winners of the Eyebrook prize of a 3-day package including accommodation were Jeff Hatton and Blyth Oxley of Surrey.
Jeff and Blyth were greeted by fishery staff and given a few killing patterns then pointed in the right direction to aid them in their quest, hopefully, to catch an Eyebrook fish or two.
The pair were both delighted and grinning like Cheshire cats when they returned to the boat frontage in the evening, they had boated around forty fish! Great to meet you guys, and hope to see you again soon.
Mike McCormick and his party The Bull Fly Fishers, enjoyed their first outing of the season, party member Martin Webster took a fine Rainbow of 7lb 3oz on a small Green Pea Lure.,/p>
Don Pendlebury from Disley in Cheshire spent 3 days at the fishery and took several fighting fit Rainbows while boat fishing; two of Dons fish tipped the scales to 6lb 4oz taken on a Gold Ribbed hares Ear Nymph.
It was great to see my old friend Clement Roddy from Ireland earlier this week; Clement has represented his country at international level on more than one occasion. We shared a boat for a fishing session that produced some wonderful fishing that made Clem’s weekend break, something rather special.
If you would like to sample some of the fantastic fishing on offer at Eyebrook Trout Fishery book your boats early to avoid disappointment, and for all the latest fishery information call the fishing lodge on 01536 772930 or visit our website at www.eyebrook.com.

Barely a week has passed and the Eyebrook 2008 season Rainbow Trout record has been beaten by a mere one ounce!
John Griffiths of Uppingham reigned as this seasons Rainbow Trout record holder for a week only, Johns fish which weighed 13lb 2oz was beaten by a fish that weighed in at 13lb 3oz.
Martin Blakstone of Corby accompanied by his good friend and season ticket holder Dave Scoefield also of Corby, the pair were over the moon when Martin netted the monster.
Dave had anchored their boat at The Willows and the pair were soon catching some quality Eyebrook Rainbows. Martin fished a floating line and size 14 Diawl Bach’s, the big fish gave Martin the fight of his life and leapt from the water several times like a dolphin. When the pair returned to the fishing lodge to officially weigh in, Martin had a total bag weight of eight fish for 32lb 11oz; Dave also took eight fine Rainbows for 19lb.
Thornton Fly Fishers held one of their club outings to the Eyebrook last weekend and all who attended were in agreement that it had been one of the most successful outings to date. Club member Dave Leavesly caught around twenty Rainbows on Buzzers and Diawl Bach as did his boat partner Roy Allen, Len Hill and Chris Bagshaw also had a great day with twenty plus fish to the boat. Ian Dalby of Uppingham boat fished to take Rainbows each that both weighed in at 9lb 10oz.
Visiting Eyebrook all the way from Ayrshire on a 3 day special were Robert Lamb, Joe McGuigan, Graham Steele and Alex McLean.
The lads had a fantastic weekend and commented on the spectacular fishing that the Eyebrook had offered to them, thank you for your support lads.
Rob Brooks of Dunton Bassett shared a boat with John Harratt of Leicester and enjoyed some wonderful sport; Rob and John took bag limits fishing on Kate McLarens and Black Buzzers fished on floating lines.
Alex Simmonds of Great Bowden introduced his son Daniel to trout fishing at the weekend and what an introduction it turned out to be. The father and son duo fished at Robbos Cabin and The Island with Red Buzzers and Diawl Bach’s on floating lines to take thirteen quality Rainbows, the heaviest fish fell to Alex’s rod at 4lb 6oz, Well done both.
Northants Police Fly Fishing Section fished a friendly match and all competitors caught on the day, Mark Mathieson of Burton Lattimer fished with Black Buzzers and caught eight fish that tipped the scales to 27lb 4oz, this bag included Rainbows of 6lb 14oz and 4lb 11oz, Mark caught and released a further twenty fish and later commented that it had been one of his best days fishing ever, praise indeed.

A Bonanza of big fish captures of top quality Rainbows at Eyebrook this week, including, John Griffiths of Uppingham with a 13lb 2oz Rainbow that sets the standard for the season record holder.
John was quite literally over the Rainbow when he landed a 13lb 2oz specimen from the bank at The Willows earlier this week. John caught his biggest ever Rainbow Trout with a Montana Nymph fished on a floating line, Griff’s eight fish bag totalled 28lb 1oz.
Amongst the many other bank anglers who have been enjoying some terrific sport at the “Brook” recently, Martin Lattimer of Gretton had a real Red Letter Day.
Martin fished the bank at Stoke Dry and The Hawthorns with a Black and Green Tadpole and Damsel Nymph to take eight cracking fish that tipped the scales to 19lb 5oz, including a cracking over wintered specimen at 4lb 14oz.
Alan Wood and Don Nind of Nottingham fished the bank at Robbos Cabin with Black Buzzers and Crunchers and took nine fine fish, the biggest Rainbow caught by Alan at 4lb 8oz.
The boat sport has been equally as good as the bank fishing, with a few big fish thrown in for good measure.
Tony Speakman of Fazely took a specimen Rainbow of 8lb 10oz on a Black and Green Tadpole, drifting off The Hawthorns and has more recently taken another bag limit of eight fish in excess of 20lb.
Brian O’Hara of Leicester drifted The Main Basin and fished a Black Dancer on a floating line to take four fine Rainbows for 16lb 5oz including a super 8lb 3oz Rainbow.
Jim Tilford of Newtown Linford was once a regular face at the Eyebrook Fishery and a very good friend of myself, but unfortunately Jim passed away in May 2007.
Jims family, John and Carol have very kindly donated a fish weighing 8lb 8oz that Jim had caught at Eyebrook and had set up in a glass case, the fish now adorns the fishery ticket office for all to see.
The Eyebrook Tackle Shop held their open weekend and thanks go to all who attended, representatives were on hand from Loop, Hardy Greys and World Fishing Holidays, with special thanks to Neville Milson who provided refreshments.

Whether you fish with Lures or Nymphs, and despite the changeable weather, the Eyebrook still continues to produce quality fishing.
Joe Mair of Corby decided to fish the bank at The Stones, and slowly retrieved a floating line with a Cats Whisker on the point to catch six Rainbows that weighed in at 14lb 10oz. Joes “partner in crime”, Wally Ogley of Yaxley fished further up at The Bell and took eight beauties for 17lb 10oz, Wally caught most of his fish on Damsel Nymphs, Bloodworm and Black Buzzer.
Eyebrook regular George Cotter of Market Harborough has enjoyed some great bank sport in recent weeks fishing a Montana Nymph at The Hawthorns and caught eight Rainbows that weighed in at 19lb 2oz.
After a casting lesson at the fishery, Laura Turner of Glaston accompanied her partner Jimmy Kelly on a boat, and was absolutely over the moon when she caught her first ever Rainbow Trout, Laura caught her fish on a Damsel Nymph, Well Done and Congratulations, Laura.
Mike Blee of Seaton has recently moved to the area and used to fish Bewl Reservoir on a regular basis, he has now visited the Eyebrook on several occasions and has enjoyed some wonderful boat fishing, on his most recent outing Mike took eight Rainbows for 16lb 11oz on Black Buzzers and returned eight more on catch and release.
Bob Jeffs, also of Seaton, accompanied Tim Polito of Medbourne on a day boat and the pair caught sixteen quality Rainbows that tipped the scales to 38lb, most of Bob and Tim’s fish fell to Black Buzzers fished on a floating lines.
The Eyebrook Tackle Shop will host a fly fishing weekend on the 19th/20th April 2008, incorporating an official opening ceremony. Representatives from companies such as Hardy, Greys, Loop, Vision, Rio, and World Sport Fishing will be on hand from 10am till 4pm and all donation from this event will go to The English Disabled Fly Fishing Association and Cancer Research.

Some tremendous catches of quality Rainbows recorded this week at the Eyebrook and a couple of firsts.
Young William Lewington (aged 14) of Great Bowden, Market Harborough accompanied by his Uncle Simon caught his first ever Rainbow Trout, a lovely fish weighing 2lb. William fished at The Hawthorns with a Gold Head Damsel on a floating line to record his first ever Rainbow.
Another novice angler who got off the mark last week was Alan Coleman of Gretton who opted to fish the bank at Robbos Cabin. Alan has fished the reservoir for some time now, but never landed one, Alan’s efforts finally paid off as he fished a Black Buzzer under a strike indicator to catch his first ever Rainbow Trout that tipped the scales to 2lb 8oz, Well Done to both of you, and if you fancy having a go at fly fishing, call in at the Eyebrook Fishing Lodge and have a word with our friendly staff who will offer advice and maybe able to arrange a fishing lesson, GO ON GIVE IT A GO .
Mick Stanton of Corby enjoyed a morning session and took five nicely conditioned Rainbows on a Damsel Nymph from The Hawthorns. John Myles of Corby fished just below Mick at The Bell and took two nice Rainbows as well as returning a beautiful Brown Trout estimated at around the 6lb mark, John caught all of his fish on a Buzzer fished under an indicator.
Kevin Lattimer of Gretton took five beauties including a superb over wintered Rainbow weighing 4lb 13oz from the bank at The Black Cabin, Kev used a Damsel Nymph to fool the fish, which when spooned, was found to be stuffed to the gills with natural Damsels.
Regular Leicester duo John Rose accompanied by boat partner Alan Brooking have been enjoying some brilliant sport with Black and Green Montana Nymphs, the pair have recorded several early season limit bags to22lb. Roy Taylor and Roy Shields of Oakham affectionately known as “The Two Roys” had a great day afloat with eight Rainbows each that tipped the scales to 34lb.
,
It is with great sadness that I must announce, a dear friend of ours passed away last week. Dave Odom of Hallaton will be sadly missed at Eyebrook and our deepest sympathies go to his family.
Early last week Dave enjoyed a Red Letter Day at the fishery on a boat with his good friend Dick Cross of Tugby, the pair caught a staggering thirty four fish between them, Dave caught eighteen fish that day and he told me that it was one of the most enjoyable days fishing he had ever had.
The first stocking of Triploid Brown Trout were introduced into the fishery last week and we are sure that they will prove to be as popular with our fishermen as were the BlueTrout in recent years, more of these fantastic Browns will be stocked next month.
Weekly stockings of quality Rainbows will continue throughout the season, and for a preview of the quality of fish that is being stocked at Eyebrook take a look at the picture gallery on our website at www.eyebrook.com.

24th March 2008
Opening day fell early for the start of the 2008 season and despite the horrific weather a healthy number of Eyebrook regulars braved the conditions to catch some cracking early season Rainbows.
Dave Franklin of Grantham fished the bank at The Cowshed with his friend Mal Green from Doncaster and the pair fished with Orange Fritz Tadpoles on floating lines to take fourteen quality Rainbows, the heaviest fish weighing in at 5lb 3oz.
The heaviest Rainbow of the day fell to the rod of Mick Parkin of Leicester, a fine specimen of 7lb 3oz.
Alan Young of Northampton took eight beautiful Rainbows that tipped the scales to 18lb 15oz; all of Alan’s fish were taken on a Black and Green Tadpole.
Alan McEvoy of Wilbarston took a quick limit from the bank and included a nice brace, one at 5lb 12oz and 3lb 11oz, all of Mac’s fish were taken on a Gold-Head Golden Olive Tadpole from the Sams Dyke area. Geoff Allsop and Sid Sharratt of Tamworth fished at The Cowshed and took eight good fish on Diawl Bach.
Tony Pointer and John Pointer of Corby took ten lovely Rainbows weighing 22lb; the pair fished The Bell with Black and Green Tadpoles fished on floating lines.
No boats were allowed out on Saturday as the winds strengthened from the North east causing minor damage to the Eyebrook fishing fleet.
The weather had another surprise in store for us on Sunday and the snow arrived, but it did not deter Paul Slatcher of Leicester who chose to fish the bank above The Hawthorns to take six cracking Rainbows, Paul also lost a few fish, I guess his hands were very cold and could not connect.
The weather has certainly not been conducive to boat fishing but brothers James Daymond and Michael Daymond of Oakham took some nice Rainbows, thirteen in total, the pair fished with Black Tadpoles off The Chestnut Tree, their father Paul Daymond boat partnered Max Beeson also of Oakham, took five Rainbows for 13lb on White and Green Boobies.
A date for your diary if you are interested in Pike fishing on the fly. On Saturday 31st May 2008 Pike fly specialist David Wolsoncroft – Dodds will hold a day seminar at Eyebrook for more details contact the fishing lodge on 01536 772930.

| Rules and Etiquette |
| |
|
| All Anglers |
| |
- Catch and release means exercising care and consideration as well as respect for your quarry. In order to do this please.
- Use barbless hooks.
- Use wet hands with minimal handling of fish.
- Do not remove fish from the water.
- Use a fine mesh net (micro-mesh).
- Use a catch and release tool.
- Hurry the fish to the net: do not play it for any length of time as lactic acid levels will build and the fish may die.
- Beached fish must not be returned to the water.
- If a fish is bleeding from the gills, it’s only fair that it is despatched. Chances are it will not survive.
- If you intend to release your fish, don’t use static boobies or a sinking line. A deep hooked fish is unlikely to survive.
- Do not release near weed. A stressed fish will often look for cover and become entangled.
- Bag limits must be strictly observed – refer to Permits.
- You must only use artificial flies. However if you are dapping you can also use natural flies.
- Anglers are allowed to fish with one rod only.
- Anglers must not use keep nets, floats, spinners, plugs, spoons or any form of groundbait.
- No live or dead baits.
- Anglers must not gut, scale or clean fish into the reservoir or onto the banks. There is no gutting facility at the fishery.
You must only use artificial flies. However if you are dapping you can also use natural flies.
|
| |
|
| All Boat Anglers |
| |
- Keep at least 50 metres from any bank anglers. Bank anglers must not fish too close to boat anglers who are already positioned near the bank.
- Give other boats plenty of clearance (25 metres min.).
- Do not drift on a course, which will interfere with boats already anchored, or anchor in the path of a boat which is already drifting.
- Do not travel, anchor or beach a boat too close to bank anglers.
- A maximum of three persons are allowed in one boat, only two of whom may fish at any one time.
- Rules broken by one person in a boat, shall reflect on all people within the boat.
- The Fishery Warden may withhold boats in bad weather.
- Boats must be returned to the pontoons or landing stages by the time that fishing ends (times are shown in the fishing lodge). Anglers who return their boats late may be refused permits or access to the reservoir in the future.
- Boats must be returned in clean and tidy condition.
- Trailing, trawling or trolling are not allowed.
