Week ending 20th July 2008
Well the fishing on the lake this week has been unbelievable with anglers catching plenty of fish and on a variety of different methods from Dries to pulling blobs. The rod average this week was 4.2 which for July is great on any water fish up to 7lb have been taken and some bank anglers have filled their bags this week.
Des Land had a good day on the bank taking 4 fish off Verduns point including a lovely 6lb 12oz brown which Des tempted with a muddler. The fish have been very high in the water this week so bank anglers have caught on their floating and intermediate lines off Verduns Point, Hut Point, Sailing Club and off the Jetty and up the Dam Wall, top flies have been Dries, Nymphs or Damsel / Black and Green mini lures. Boat anglers have been having sport like it was opening day; Andy Taylor and his boat partner Mr Sheppard caught 29 fish between them on a floating line using small Dries Hoppers/ Daddies and a Green wells Spider, Andy took a lot of his fish drifting from the Cage down the Dam Wall towards the Tower covering fish all day long. Glen Moody has also been catching a lot of fish this week but not on Dries and small Nymphs but Blobs just to show that something different is still working. Glen from Crewe has been drifting out from the cage to the middle of the Res and picking some good fish up with rainbows to 5lb; A Sunburst blob on a slow glass proved to do the business for Glen covering fish then pulling the fly back in front of the trout to trigger a reaction, Glen ended the day on 20 fish. Boat anglers now are catching really well and the top areas have been around the Cages, down the Dam Wall, The Boils and drifting across the middle, so many different methods have been working it's really been up to the angler what to use but anything from Dries, Nymphs, Boobies and Blobs will work but just remember to fish them in the top 5ft of water. Tight Lines and see you soon Phil Dixon
Week ending 13th July 2008
What a weeks fishing up at foremark this week with plenty of anglers catching their limits and a great rod average of 3.3. It looks like the introduction of fresh fish this week 2,600 rainbows and blues has turned the lake right on with every fish competing for the food. The final round of the Scierra pairs was held this week with 21 teams entering it was a great match to be a part of. Mark Davies and Phil Dixon won the event with a bag of 12 fish plus time bonus fro 34lb 15ozs. We caught the first 5 of the boils and then ventured down the Cavers arm to complete the limit of 12 by 12.15. Mike Dixon and Mick Mclintic was 2nd also with 12 fish and Ian Buckley and Glen Moody took 3rd. Phil Webb and Clive Wilkins were hoping for the wild card with a cracking rainbow of 6lb 12oz but when they saw Ian Gaskell bring an 8lb 2oz rainbow to the scales they didn't know what to do, luckily for Phil and Clive Ian and his boat partner had already qualified for the final. Well done for the lads who did get through and lets hope one us can win the final in August at Rutland Water.
Boat fishing has been good all over the lake this week with the Boils holding an unbelievable amount of fish. Tactics have been bright flies up in the water as the fish are feeding hard on the Daphnia, Pin Fry and olive Buzzers. Cavers Arm is holding a lot of fish wright down the middle and also on the Cascade. Bank anglers are still catching the odd fish of the Jetties but a boat is the way to catch a lot of fish on Foremark at the moment. Hope to see you up here soon and tight lines Phil Dixon.
Ian Gaskell 48 from Lancaster took this 8lb 2oz rainbow from a drifting boat down on the Dam Wall; Ian used a floating line and a green Diawl Bach to tempt the fish.
Week ending 6th July 2008
A bit of a strange weeks fishing has been had a Foremark this week with some anglers catching some really good bags in hard conditions and a lot of lads have been struggling to get a pull. The rod average for the week was 2.1 which isn't to bad with the changeable weather. Johnathan Tomlinson from Chesterfield set a new fishery record this week by taking a bag of 6 fish for an unbelievable weight of 40lb 4ozs, that's an average fish of over 6lb. Tommo set out at the start of the day to break the bag record by fishing deep outside the cages with a Di5 and three small nymphs, When Tommo brought the fish up to the lode i couldn't believe my eyes what a bag of fish they were in superb nick, The largest in his bag was a rainbow of 8lb 10 Oz's and the smallest a rainbow of 4lb 10oz what a great bag and I'm sure this wont get beaten for a long time not only on here but any Res in the country well done Tommo good angling. The bank anglers are finding the fishing quite hard now with the fish holding out in the open water, If the conditions are fine with plenty of cloud cover the fish have been right on the surface and moving on top closer in to the banks. Best areas have been out on the Boils and in the Middle, round the Cage and the Main Basin area and the odd angler has been catching down the Cavers Arm. All of the boats are booked out this Wednesday the 9th for the Scierra Pairs, but you can still fish from the bank. Next week will see 2,000 fish go in the lake to hopefully boast the fishing up and a lot of the stocked fish will be blue trout around the 1lb 10oz mark. Hopefully see you soon and Tight Lines Phil Dixon.

Week ending 29th June 2008
Well another great fishing week has been had a foremark with plenty of anglers catching their limits and returning plenty as well, Fish up to 7lb have been taken this week and a good rod average of 4.5.
Bank anglers are still catching some good bags of fish mainly on floaters and Black Buzzers with small Damsels on the point, Hot spots for the bank anglers have been Fishing Pontoon, sailing club jetty, verduns point and down the Cavers Arm with the odd angler taking fish outside the lodge as the fish are feeding hard on the small fry. Boat anglers have been saying that they have never seen so many fish rise on a water before with the fish now hard on the feed well up in the water if the conditions are right. Si Owens and Dave Ledger of Derby showed how many fish you can catch when you fish high in the water, Si took 16 fish all on a Midge Tip with Nymphs and Dave took 15 half on a Cat Booby on a intermediate and the rest on a floater; The lads were drifting all day, starting the drift outside the lodge and going all the way to Hut Point or to the Middle of the Res.
Rens Delrosso also of Derby had a awesome day in the boat taking 10 fish with his boat Partner Johnathan Tomlinson up to 7lb 12oz. They were fishing outside the lodge on Di7's with white Minkie Boobies to catch the fish. Rens killed 3 fish and weighed them in for an unbelievable 17lb 8oz. The fishing is great at the moment with the fish well spread and willing to rise so get up here and give it a go Tight Lines Phil Dixon
Week ending 22nd June 2008
Well what a difference a week makes the water has cleared up and the fish have really turned on with a rod average of 5 and the fish averaging nearly 3lb anglers can't go wrong.
This weeks fishing at Foremark has been hard to believe, anglers have been taking fish all over the lake and on a wide variety of methods from dries to Di 7's. The boats are fishing better than the banks but Brian Crockett, Trev Gee and Derick Smith took 24 fish up to 5lb between them off the boat jetty fishing floaters and small black buzzers, other hot spots off the banks have been along the Dam Wall, Sailing Club, Verdun's Point and down the Cavers as the Mayfly is still coming off. Top patterns and methods from the banks have been floaters and nymphs but the dries are well worth a go later in the day as the fish have been rising really well on the Sedge and Caines in the evenings. Boat anglers have been filling their boots with some of the best fishing you will see anywhere with fish rising and more than willing to take a dry its great sport. Iain Barr showed how deadly the dries are at Foremark by taking 17 fish for the day with drifts of Hut Point to the lodge bank, with the wind blowing from the East the fish were still willing to rise. Iain had some good fish in his bag none better than a 5lb 2oz Brownie, he lost another brown under the cage which was even bigger. With strong winds on Sunday the second leg of the England qualifiers were called off so i finally got a day on the lake i fished with Steve Peart from Newcastle who showed me how many fish there were to be had, we were drifting from Bramble Bay straight across to the Cascade all day and what a day we put 28 fish in the boat missed just as many again and lost a lot. The method was orange blob on the top dropper and a white Humungus on the point Di 5 fly line and pull as fast as you can!!!! Top boat areas have been down the Cavers, around the Cage and Sailing club area and the Boils are holding that many fish you flies don't have time to settle on the water before a trouts on it. Hopefully now the water will stay clear and the fish will keep pulling with free rising fish to cast at. Don't be afraid to drift the open the open water there are plenty of fish out there. Tight Lines Phil Dixon. |
Iain Barr 36 an I.T Manager from peterbough with a fine bag of fish all taken on a floating line with dries from a drifting boat.
Week ending 15th June 2008
Well the fishing has slowed up this week with a brown algal bloom putting the fish right off. A rod average of 1.8 for the week showed how some anglers really struggled and couldn't tempt anything where as other anglers put plenty of fish in the net.
Kev Hart had the best bag of fish this week fishing from a boat and using small nymphs on a floater Kev landed 12 fish with the best a fine 6lb rainbow which took a Black Diawl Bach off the top. Kev's boat partner Scott Wilson had 7 just to show the fish can be had. John Grainy had a great days sport also taking 12 fish. The top bags have been coming of the boats as the fish are starting to find that deeper water and the boils.
Bank anglers are having to fish off the points or the jetty's to get that bit more distance and the anglers which are using the Nymphs on a long leader or Boobies on the bottom have been catching the better bags. Hopefully this week the water will clear out and the fish will be back on the feed as they were before, If you are in the boats then don't be afraid to drift out in open water and off the back end off the boils as the fish will be out in the deeper cooler water. Hope to see you up here catching soon Tight Lines Phil Dixon
Week ending 8th June 2008
What a change to the weather finally no more North Easterly winds, with the weather warming up and the aerators being turned on the water has colored up a bit this week with some anglers really struggling. A rod average of 3.6 isn't to bad as some days the conditions have been awful.
Foremark Fly Fishers held a match at the weekend with conditions not ideal with Bright sun the fishing was always going to be tricky but good old Merv Amos from Burton showed us all the way by winning the match with 10 fish all on the Bung at 13ft. Merv fished down the Cavers arm all day trying spots all the way down from Sunblest Bay to The power lines taking 10 for the day and losing 6 others just to prove that they are catch-able. I took 2nd place with a bag of 5 fish for 13lb 10oz the best a brown of 5lb 10oz what a cracker!!! Alan Dawes who has been catching for fun all season came 3rd with another great performance taking 8 fish but just weighed 1oz less than myself sorry Al. Fishing this week will be better in the mornings or late evenings if the weather stays this hot, top places to fish will be any where down the Cavers Arm with the trout still feeding hard on the Mayfly, around the cage area, Sailing club, Flamingo and up on the boils this will start to pull the fish in and we could be surprised by a big fish popping up there soon so watch out. Fish down deep when the weather is bright and hot and don't be scared to fish your nymphs on a sinking line to get down to where the fish are feeding. hope to see you up here soon and tight lines Phil Dixon.

Si Ownes from Derby with a 7lb rainbow took on a buzzer the fish was carefully returned to the water.
Week ending 1st June 2008
Another great week of fishing has been had at foremark with plenty of fine fish coming out up to 8lb and some really good bags. It was a really busy week on the lake with 2 big matches being held and over 120 anglers turned out for them.
A rod average of 4.6 was a total for the weeks catch which is great as a lot of anglers had a go at fishing this week.
Bank fishing is still really good with a lot of fish still holding in the bays nice and close in, with the cooler weather and east winds these fish will stay in close until the warm weather comes if it does?? Top patterns have been anything small and imitative black buzzers,PTN, crunchers, diawl bachs and small damsels. Boat lads are having great sport around the cage and in the main bays around the lodge but also down the Cavers Arm on the Mayfly, Yes Mayflies. Bramble Bay and over on the Gorse bushes have seen a lot of Mayfly coming off in the wright conditions so it's well worth a look late afternoon. The first match held this week was the Rolls Royce match which was teams of 3 anglers 2 on the boat and 1 on the bank and good match was had with a rod average of 4.8 and only 6 anglers out of 80 didn't catch. The top weight for 8 fish without time bonus was 20lb 8ozs and was taken from the boat fishing on a slime line and a Minkie Booby. The next match was held the day after and with the lake like a Mill Pond no wind at all the fish were free rising but hard to get close to. At the end of the day Martin Dixon (yes my dad) won the Foremark Open with 18 fish for a total of 31lb 8ozs. The match was fished to a 3 fish limit then catch and release with every fish going back counting for 2lb. Martin fished around Flamingo Bay, Sailing club bay and around the cages to take top spot, his boat partner Tom Davies also had a great day boating 14 fish and finishing 3rd. Mark Davies from Burton was close in 2nd place with 16 fish. The method for the day was fishing small nymphs high in the water using a booby to keep them in the top 3ft. Overall it was a great day and fished well with a rod average of 5.2. Thanks to every one who turned up and hope you had a great day and made some new friends, hopefully you will fish the next one. Tight Lines Phil Dixon.

all the prize winners from the Foremark open. from L to R: Mike Dixon 5th, Tom Dvies 3rd, Mark Davies 2nd, Me, Martin Dixon 1st, Nick Dunn 4th, Andrew Smith best fish 5lb 4oz.
Week ending 25th May 2008
Good old English weather you just can't beat it, The start of the week saw some great fishing on the floaters and buzzers but as the wind got stronger and stronger the fishing got harder, well for some it did like me!! The rod average this week was 4 which for the weather we have had is quite good and me catching 1 fish didn't help much!!!! Anglers were catching a lot of fish early in the week on the buzzers or any small nymphs fished as slow as you could. Flamingo Bay and on the Lodge frontage was the place to be if you were fishing off the bank as the North Easterly winds have been holding the fish on the Lodge bank. Boat anglers have been finding fish a bit more spread over the lake catching fish all the way down the Cavers Arm to the Nature Reserve, Cascade, Sunblest and Bramble being the hot spots. Fly wise has been anything imitative fished slow in the top 6ft of water but as the wind picked up you had no control on the nymphs so out came the lures and some anglers caught well over the weekend. Strong winds saw fishing slow down but John Grainy and his boat partner Mr Barton showed us how to catch the fish taking 15 fish to the boat in Flamingo Bay that was good angling!!! Hopefully this weather will sort it's self out and the fishing will really come alive with plenty more fish going in this week and the Mayfly really coming off. The Foremark Open is being held this Saturday 31st this is a nice friendly match fished to fishery rules for CASH prizes and a fine BBQ and drinks after, so the anglers can tell the stories about that fish that came off all good fun so give the lodge a ring and book in (01283) 703202. Hopefully see you up here soon and Tight Lines.

Week ending 18th May 2008
just when i thought the weather was on the up back come the cold North Easterly winds will the wind direction ever change. With strong cold winds this week the rod average dropped to 4 with some anglers finding the fishing hard. Scot Wilson and Ray Ellis were amongst the anglers who caught very well both of them taking over 20 fish each. Ray found fishing quite hard when he started on the lures but the minute he changed to the nymphs the fish couldn't get enough, Ray fished a 15ft leader with 3 Buzzers on a floater down the Cavers Arm to take 24 fish for the day, he had rainbows up to 4lb. Scot had a similar day struggling on the lures but changing to his favorite Olive Daddy late morning the fish started to come every drift. Scott found a lot of fish holding tight in over on the Ticknall bank from the Cascade to Heron Point. Bank anglers have been having good catches over on the East bank from Bush Bay to the Cascade but the bigger bags of fish have been coming out on smaller natural flies such as Buzzers, Diawl Bachs, PTN, Crunchers and even on dries when you are fishing the top bank. There are still a few places left for the Foremark Open boat match it has been a great event over the past few years with a BBQ and beer after-wards so who cares if you don't win. This week will see similar fishing conditions so head for the bays and the top of the wind and fish your smaller patterns and your catches will improve. Tight Lines Phil Dixon.

Gary Davies from Woodville with the best fish of the week a fine 8lb 6oz rainbow taken on a Sunburst Booby fished off the bank in the Sailing Club Bay.
Week ending 11th May 2008
Well the weather has finally turned and the sun has been out all week making the fishing even better with a rod average of 5.6. The big fish have still been on the move with plenty of fish over the 5lb mark still coming out. Gary Owen took the best fish this week a fine overwintered Brown at around 7lb Gary took the fish fishing deep from the boat outside the Lodge,

Gary had 15 fish on the day using a Di5 and Blobs.
Boat anglers have been catching well on the Nymphs along the Ticknall Bank and also around the Lodge area on deep lines and Boobies. Bank Lads have caught well again this week but again they have been fishing just that bit deeper with the bright conditions. This weekend saw the 3 local Clubs fish against each other in a 6 fish match at foremark, it was always going to be a close match and that's how it was, Derby Fly-fishers won the event by taking 56 fish for a total of 75lb 14oz, Foremark was second with 56 fish for a total of 69lb 15oz and Thornton were third with 29 fish for 54lb 15ozs. it was a great match with every team member catching a fish and adding to there clubs total. Top angler on the day was Clive Wilkins not only taking his bag of 6 fish for 17lb 10oz he also returned 9 others, Clive had some cracking fish in his bag and took the largest of the match a rainbow of 5lb 2oz well done mate and good angling, hopefully the event will fish well next year where ever it is and Foremark will be trying there best to win back the trophy. There is still a few places available for the Foremark Open Match on the 31st of May so give us a ring and give it a go.
See you up here soon and tight lines Phil Dixon
Week ending 4th May 2008
Finally a bit of good weather and boy are the trout making the most of it with plenty of fish rising in the evenings and during the day if the conditions are wright. A good rod average this week of 5 with anglers taking plenty of good fish up to 8lb 4oz. Top of the water tactics have taken a lot of fish this week with local angler Mick Smith taking 16 fish including a 4lb brown trout on Buzzers fished on a floating line from the bank. Anglers have started to catch fish on dries but small 16 Red CDC's have taken the majority of the rising fish. Bank fishing is still really good with a lot of overwintered fish still coming out in front of the lodge and in Flamingo Bay, Floating lines have been the best from the bank with a team of Black Buzzers or a small lure on the point Olive or Black/Green. Boobies are also taking fish as John Dean proved when he hooked into what he thought was a whale of the Pontoon, when John finally got the fish to the net it was a cracking rainbow of 8lb 4oz what a fish!!!

Boat Anglers have been taking a lot of fish outside and around the Cage area with the Sailing Club Bay, Flamingo Bay and Bush Bay all holding a lot of fish as well. Top tactics from the boats has been anything from Buzzers on a Floater to Boobies fished slow down deep. Hopefully now the weather will stay nice the fish will keep feeding and the sport will only get better. A few anglers have seen the Hawthorne flies around so you never know this coming week could see some more fantastic dry fly fishing.
I am holding an Open fly fishing competition on Sat 31st May, fished to fishery rules and CASH prizes so why not give it a go, to book in just call the lodge (01283) 703202.
Tight Lines and see you soon Phil.
Week ending 27th April 2008
Yet another great week of fishing even the weather is getting better now. Fish have been coming out all week and some up to 8lb. 4.9 was the rod average for this week at Foremark with anglers taking there limits and some lads catching over 20 fish. Scott Wilson led the way this week taking 23 fish off the bank on a variety of flies from buzzers on the floater to a Green/black Fritz on the Di3 just to show how much the fish are on and how many fish are in the lake. The hot spots on the bank have been around the Lodge Flamingo Bay and Verduns Point, Don't be afraid to walk down the Cavers Arm as the fish are all the way down to the Cables at the nature reserve. Boat anglers have also been catching well all the way down the Ticknall bank on Buzzers and Nymphs. Carl Nixon had the largest fish this week and what a fish it was, Carl played the fish for 10 minutes before he saw the fish and boy was he shocked when a lovely overwintered fish of 8lb 3ozs rolled over his nett. Carl fished from the boat over on the east bank and tempted the fish along with 12 others on a 14ft leader with a team of Black Buzzers.

FOREMARK FALCONS
This new team, set up by Foremark Fishery owner Phil Dixon, and including two members new to team fly fishing, Gary Owen from Coalville and Mark Davies from Burton, made its debut in two high profile matches at Rutland last week.
On Monday 21st April the team fished a heat of the Lexus European championships. Despite strong competition the 6 Falcons caught the highest number of fish 46. The team with the second highest number of fish, Team Loch Style, boated the day's largest fish of almost 6lb, so the Falcons had to be content with 2nd place, comfortably qualifying for the second round on Chew Valley Lake in early August.
On Sat 26th April the teams battled for qualification to the North England Final of the prestigious Anglian Water sponsored competition. Again the Falcons fished consistently, only pipped for first place by the team of local expert Iain Barr.
Phil Dixon said of the first two matches "Thanks to our sponsors, including Walkers of Trowell and Bakewell Fly Shop, our preparation was superb. We had a sound game plan which was carried out brilliantly by all of our team".
More reports on the Falcons results will following during the season. Hopefully now with this warm weather the dries will really start to work and the fish will carry on feeding. See you all soon and tight Lines. Pic:-Carl Nixon with his 8lb 3oz rainbow taken on a Buzzer.
Week ending 20th April 2008
What is this weather all about strong cold easterlies the worst and the coldest, but luckily the sport at Foremark is still on top form with the fish feeding hard and the anglers bagging up. The rod average this week was 4.8 with the largest fish being another 9lb rainbow.
Colick Park had there first match on Foremark this year 16 fished, all on boats bar two.On arrival the wind was strong and blowing towards the Lodge. Most boats headed for more sheltered fishing. Terry Prince however anchored near the cages and caught his 6 fish on a sinking line. The majority caught on Boobys near the bottom, excluding Robin Soar and John Hyem who fished floating lines with long leaders all day; both caught superb fish on black & green Montanas. John won with 17lb 2oz (inc heaviest fish 5lb 2oz) and Robin was a close second with 17lb. Congratulations to both.

Robin Soar and John Hyem who fished floating lines with long leaders all day; both caught the fish on black & green Montanas. John with his heaviest fish 5lb 2oz and Robin with a 4lb fish
It was great to welcome some newcomers to the Club, Adam Brookes who was 4th , Tom Carter had his best Match day to date with 6 fish and guest Jane Taylor caught 4 off the bank. Several had their limit and went on to Catch & Release. Our total fish weight was 155lb 12oz. Nearly an average of 10lbs per rod. The areas which are fishing the best for the bank lads have been Verduns Point all the way round to Flamingo in the bay and down the Cavers arm past Sunblest to the power lines, The east bank has been producing a lot of fish as well mainly on the Nymphs at the top of the wind and lures - Boobies at the bottom. Boat anglers are starting to catch all over the lake on the same patterns mainly lures so keep on the move. Hopefully the weather will improve at some stage and hope to see you up here soon Tight Lines Phil Dixon.
Week ending 13th April 2008
Well the weather isn't in the same league as New Zealand but the fishing isn't far off this week at Foremark with overwintered rainbows coming off at 9lb, browns up to 5lb and every size in between. Another fantastic weeks fishing has been had with a superb rod average of 6 which will be hard to beat any where in the country.
Anglers have been catching some big bags and on small flies. Tony Wright can't do anything wrong at the moment fishing off the bank around Flamingo to Bramble Bay, Tony from Derby has been taking big bags of fish on his floating line and dead drifting buzzers and a small Damsel. Local angler Mick Litchfield had one of his best days ever from a boat this week catching 17 fish from the Cascade Bay to the Gorse Bushes Mick said "if every pull i had stuck i would have caught 30 plus what a days great sport" . The lake is producing some of the finest fish I have ever seen with plenty of rainbows coming out 4lb to 7lb, and some even bigger with the odd brown round the 5lb mark popping up as well so make sure you test them knots.

The best fish this week was a 9lb 2oz rainbow taken by Martin Hawes who tempted the fine fish by fishing small black buzzers on 4lb tippit, fished on a floating line in flamingo bay. Martin finished the day taking 5 fish all on small size 14 black buzzers.
Looking ahead to next week if the weather breaks, then we could see the fish move up in the water looking for the hawthorn and see some fantastic dry fly sport. Hopefully see you all up here soon, tight lines
Week ending 5th April 2008
Despite the inclement Spring weather, Foremark continues to produce superb fish and bulging bags. At total of 285 anglers visited the fishery in the week, producing a rod average of 4.6.
Largest fish this week was a 9lb 6oz rainbow taken by Mr. Bray from Chesterfield, fishing a buzzer from the lodge bank.

Iain Barr visited again this week, and took 31 fish from the boat. He spent some time on the Ticknall bank, and every one of the 15 fish he caught in that area was overwintered. Some quality browns have also been caught, most on deeply fished buzzers. In any warmer spells there have been large hatches of buzzers in all shallow areas. Top bank spots are the dam, sailing club, flamingo bay and the sunblest bay area. From the boats anchoring in downwind areas close to the bank is the best option. From both boat and bank, deep and slow in the watchword. A large stocking was made on 7th April so prospects for the weeks ahead are excellent.
REPORT OF COMMONWEALTH FLY FISHING CHAMPIONSHIPS - NEW ZEALAND The England team included Foremark Trout Fishery owner Phil Dixon and fellow Derbyshire angler Bernie Maher. Despite strong competition, a consistent performance by all of the England rods saw them take silver, beaten only by a very strong Scottish team who chose to fish the Commonwealth rather than World Championships. Phil Dixon was top England rod, and was delighted to win the individual bronze medal. Further details of results, and photos on; www.hastingsanglers.org.nz.
Week ending 30th March 2008
An incredible week of fishing at Foremark saw 268 anglers produce a rod average of 7.2. This was achieved despite the awful weather, though many regulars say that the worse the weather, the better the fishing at Foremark.
Best fish of the week, and the season, was a rainbow of 10lb 6oz. caught by Ken Trueman of Rotherham.
The heaviest limit bag was taken by Iain Barr with 6 fish for 27lb. From the bank Lindsay Capper of Crewe caught 35. Highest number taken on the boat was 57 fish by Mr. M Ginley and his partner.
The hot-spots continue to be the Lodge Frontage, Sailing Club and Flamingo Bay. Those who decided to venture a little further afield found quality fish in the Carver Arm.
With the water starting to warm up the buzzer activity is building. Best methods from the boat are fast sinking lines with boobies. From the bank buzzers and fritz damsels are producing superb bags of fish.
Week ending 23rd March 2008
Another week of excellent sport at Foremark, despite the very cold unseasonal weather over Easter. The rainbows are feeding hard on the first buzzer hatches of the season in the area in front of the lodge, and in the sailing club bay and flamingo bay. The rod average has been maintained at a healthy 7, and many fish of between 5 and 6lb have been caught. Largest brown and rainbow, both in excess of 9lb were caught and returned in the same area near the cages by Gary Mann and Mike Mason respectively. Fishery owner Phil Dixon has avoided the cold weather and is enjoying superb sport in the North Island of New Zealand with wild brown trout in the run-up to the Commonwealth Championships. The Championships will be fished in the first week of April a full report will follow.
Yet another great weeks fishing at Foremark with the rod average remaining high at 7.8.
There has been some excellent sport seen this week especially on the bank in flamingo bay where local angler Scott Wilson caught 44 fish in just over 3 hours on a gold head rubber legged daddy on an intermediate line. He commented that flamingo bay was alive with fish as did fellow angler Clive Wilkins who also had 25 fish from the bay on Saturday, on an olive damsel. Saturday also saw over 70 anglers turn up to experience the superb sport, with the majority of them catching stockies high up in the water on buzzers, black and green fritz and tadpoles. While other anglers who were keen to fish deeper using boobies, pulled out some fantastic residents up to the 7lb mark. Although Sunday wasnt the best day weather wise, the Coppenhall lads were not put off and fished in the awful weather to catch their 6 fish. What can I say, apart from I won the match thanks to my first catch of the day, which was a 6lb 2 oz over wintered fish, which I caught outside the lodge on a di3, using a black and green fritz which I tied in the morning. Some anglers had bagged up by lunchtime, whilst others stuck it out to get their best 6 fish. One of these was newcomer, 14 yr old Rossini Rao who caught his last fish of the day over in sunblest bay on a fly we tied earlier, only half an hour before the match ended. He couldnt have been happier with his 6 fish especially when they weighed in at a hefty 14lb 10 oz and got him into 3rd place. The match was won by myself with my 6 fish weighing in at a brilliant 19lb 5oz. Whilst the bank anglers experienced some first class sport throughout the week from the lodge front round to the power lines, the boat anglers have also had their fair share of fish. The best boat areas appear to still be down carvers arm, around the cages and in flamingo bay, with anglers bagging up using various lure patterns. Gary Owen and his teenage son caught 24 fish between them using a black humungus 50 yards from the bank in the hot spot flamingo bay!

Just when you thought the fishing couldn't get any better anglers at Foremark prove me wrong by taking bags weighing up to 26lb for 6 fish. The rod average at Foremark is 8 this week with some massive bags of rainbows coming to the scales with big fish also coming out up to the 9lb mark.
Ray Land had the largest fish of the season this week a cracking overwintered fish at 8lb 10ozs. Ray took 20 mins to land this fantastic rainbow which took a Green Damsel fished on an intermidate line outside the Lodge.

Les Wheeler weighed a fine Blue trout in at 7lb which he took of the boat fishing a Di7 and a Orange Boobie on the bottom next to the cage. Iain Barr had proberly the best day this week taking 35 fish up to 4lb off the boat in variours spote from the Sailing Club down the Cavers Arm and the Gorse Bushes. Iain was fishing a di3 with his new patterns the Blue Cat and also the U V Black Cormarant and boy do they work.
Bank anglers are catching well all around the bank from the Lodge Frontage to Bramble bay, Floating or intermidates have been producind the best bags and flies like Black/green, green/white and pritty much any lure you have. Some anglers have been catching on the nymphes and they have been picking out some of the older fish which is great to see. Boat anglers have found alot of fish around the Cages, Sailing Club, Flamingo and all the way down thw Cavers Arm, the tip for the boat lads is to stay within 100yrds of the bank as the fish haven't really moved out yet and again top patterns have been lures.
3rd March 2008
Well here we are again March the 1st Open day and what a day it was!!! A great turn was had on the opening weekend at foremark with nearly 150 anglers over the 2 days taking over 1,000 fish up to 6lb with a rod average of 11 now beat that. Strong winds didn't stop the anglers turning up this weekend which fished really well from the boats and even better from the bank. The boat fishermen struggled to get a hold in the main Basin with the strong winds so they headed down the Cavers Arm to the bays and what great fishing they had with most boats returning with their limits and releasing a fair amount more. Bank anglers have had top sport along the Dam wall to the Sailing club where the majority of the rainbows are holding.

Glen Moody from Crewe had a fine day taking 6 fish for 18lb and releasing 34 rainbows and a lovely brown pushing the 5lb mark.
The fish have been showing up on the windward bank in Flamingo bay and all the way down the bank from Sunblest to the Nature reserve. Fly patterns haven't really mattered yet with anglers taking fish on lures, Boobies and even Diawl Bachs and Buzzers. 3,000 rainbows went in for the start and weekly stockings will be taking place all this month to build a good head of trout up ready for the new season and what a season we should have. Don't be put of by the weather get your rods out and let the wind blow the cob webs off and let the trout test your nylon???? Hopefully see you up here fishing soon and tight lines Phil Dixon.
15th February 2008
Fishery owner Phil Dixon is delighted to unveil his plans for his 3rd season which will open at 7.00am on Saturday 1st March.
The installation of fish rearing cages last year means that Phil will be stocking with 25,000 fish in 2008 - the highest stock denisty per acre of any UK reservoir. Quality brown trout will remain a feature at Foremark, and last year they were caught up to 7lb 10ozs.
The main investment in the close season has been an entirely new stock of 2008 Mercury 4 stroke engines. There are kinder to the environment, smoother running and easier to start.
Boat and season ticket prices are pegged for 2008, with all fishing tickets going up by only £1.
Boat bookings are now being taken for opening day. For those who enjoy the competitive element, a Scierra Pairs heat is being held again in 2008, together with a programme of sponsored open matches.

We are coming to the end of the season now but the fishing is still fantastic with plenty of fish still coming out, and some big fish as well. A rod average of 4.1 saw some anglers catch good bags of fish and some lovely Brownies up to the 5lb mark, even i caught 1. Jody Younger has been catching well this week from the bank using a fast sink line and a single Minkie Boobie, Jody had 16 fish on 2 visits this week with 3 of the fish over 5lb the best being a lovely personal best of 6lb 11oz well done Jody.

Gary Owen took the top spot in the Foremark Open this year and he did it in style taking 22 fish for a total weight with his catch and release bonus 42lb 8ozs. Gary started the day around the Cages picking up the odd fish on a midge tip and nymphs it wasn't until mid day Gary decided to put on his Di 7 and a Orange blob on the top 2 Diawl Bachs and a Cat Booby on the point, Gary didn't need to changeagain as the fish came steady all day drifting from the Tower across the middle.

Martin Dixon came 2nd with 13 fish for 25lb 3ozs and Si Owens had a good day in 3rd with 12 fish for 23lb2ozs. A full set of results can be found on the web site at www.foremarktroutfishery.co.uk.

Pete Moore of Burton had a great days fishing from a boat taking a nice limit of fish and returning a few, his day was top off by landing a magnificent rainbow of 11lb. Pete was fishing his weCel 2 (sinker) up on the boils when this monster stop his line dead after a 15 minute battle the fish was landed and Pete couldn't believe what he had just landed on his Silver Invictor.

Week ending 17th June 2007
Well what a difference a week can make in the weather and the fishing. Some of the best fish i have ever seen have been taken this week with plenty of fish smashing over the 4lb mark. A rod average of 2 doesn't really tell the story as many anglers took home there limits this week.

Dennis Haynes took a fantastic 8lb 6oz rainbow his best yet of the lake in 20 years in his 8 fish catch this week, Dennis was fishing down the Cavers Arm on a Intermediate and a Damsel when he hooked up to what seemed to be a big brown but was a stunning rainbow which had been in the lake for some time.

Lee Grice from Derby had a cracking Brown in his bag this week which tipped the scales at 3lb 11ozs. Lee spend a long time chasing the fish up and down the margin's and finally tempted the brown on a dry Daddy "good angling mate."

Paul Harvey has been having some cracking fish outside the lodge on his Coral Booby fished really slow and deep but if a fish moves Paul will retrieve his line and cover it.
13 year old Rossini Durose with his best rainbow of 5lb 12oz caught on a black buzzer off the dam wall.

Season ticket holder Rens had a great day from the boat taking a total of 8 fish with 2 over the 5lb mark. Rens was fishing up in Gorse Bay with a Di5 and a White Minkie Boobie on.

Gary Mitchell from Ikeston took the best fish of the week a lovely 8lb 10oz rainbow. Gary was fishing off heron point in a drifting boat when he took the fish, this rainbow was fooled by a white Minkie fished on a intermediate line.
The best fish off this week was a stunning 7lb 8oz rainbow taken again off the bank on a Orange Baby Doll, Richard Miller from Hartshorne took the fish on a intermediate line with a very slow retrieve.
