FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 2/3/08
Last week there were 85 rods caught 262 fish for an average of 3.10.
The high winds made life difficult for those who fished last week. But they were rewarded with some good sport.
The best fish caught this week was a 7lb rainbow taken by Ian Rouault from Nuneaton who took it on a Damsel Nymph from the bank of Cocks Close. Mark Goldney of Nuneaton took fish to 5lb in a seven fish catch from the bank of Cocks Close and these came to a Cats Whisker fished on an intermediate line. David Hoppe of Coventry fished on a catch and release ticket from the bank of Cocks Close and he caught 23 fish to 4lb and a variety of patterns with Buzzers, Hares Ear Nymph and white Lures all produced fish for him. Kevin Bradford of Tamworth took a seven fish catch from a boat on Park Meadow with fish to 4lb falling to white Lures.
Best tactics have been intermediate lines with Damsel Nymph, Cats Whisker, white and green Nomad, Appetizer, black Tadpole and Minkies.
The winds pushing into the high bank on Cocks Close have made that area the best last week with the platforms and the old boat jetty all producing plenty of fish. On the members’ waters the shallow water around the far side from the boat jetty on Park Meadow and the deep water at the far end of Hall Pool have been in the best form. Great Pool should re-open next week.

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 24/2/08
Last week there were 70 rods caught 202 fish for an average of 2.90.
With all the pools frozen at the start of the week it is not surprisingly that the fishery has been quieter this week. The mild spell that followed the cold snap enabled anglers to get back on the water and the fishing has been good.
Best fish of the week was caught by Mike Beeson of Sutton Coldfield who was fishing on a catch and release ticket from the bank of Cocks Close and tempted it on a black Gold Head Lure. Paul Beasley of Coventry took a 5 fish limit and released a further 5 fish whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and all of these came to a Pheasant Tail Nymph and included fish of 4lb 10oz and 3lb 8oz in his limit. Peter Elliott of Bromsgrove caught 16 fish on a catch and release ticket including one at 7lb 8oz plus and these all came to a red Buzzer.
Despite the cold weather there were a lot of fish taken on small Nymphs and Buzzers this week with the sight bob method proving very effective. Black and white Lures are still taking fish particularly during any bright spells when an intermediate line with a Cats Whisker or black and green Tadpole can be deadly.
The best areas are still the old boat jetty corner and high bank on Cocks Close.

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 17/2/08

The very bright and eventually much colder weather saw a downturn in sport through the week with the fish going much deeper to avoid the bright sun.
There were some nice fish caught and the best fish of the week was a 9lb 8oz rainbow caught by fishery regular, Roy Stroud of Dorridge who took it on a Bloodworm pattern from the sandbank just outside the lodge. Best tactic has been to fish deep with Lures such as Cats Whisker, Nomad, black and green Tadpole on a sinking or intermediate line. Also small patterns such as Bloodworm, Buzzer or weighted Hares Ear Nymphs fished under an indicator have also been working well.
The best areas have been along the road bank or sandbank on Cocks Close.

An initial stock of 1000 rainbows from 2lb – 10lb will go in with regular stockings all through the winter. A large number of fish have gone through the much cooler summer and sport is expected to be excellent from the start. Boat and back spaces are available for the first weekend.
The members’ waters are currently open with the Great Pool, in particular showing good form. In the past week there have been good buzzer and sedge hatches and a lot of fish have been moving on the surface. Stephen Roberts caught 5 on Saturday using a black Buzzer on a floating line. Fishery stalwart, Tom Smith took 2 rainbows and 3 browns on tiny Buzzers casting at rising fish.
