Welcome to the new look Rutland Gillies my name is Ziggy  I run an  independent gillie and guiding service for game fishing enthusiasts from the complete beginner to the more experienced angler.  Offering our advice and sharing knowledge of local lakes and Reservoirs in the Midlands - Rutland Water, Grafham Water, Eyebrook and many other locations. As you can see the new layout is much the same as the previous  site with one or two extra's, We now have a forum page which I hope you will use and keep in touch with each other and also put your own reports and photo's in on your days fishing may it be game fishing or course fishing, it will be all up to you..

I hope you will like it. I have been a fisherman for as long as I can remeber, firstly a very keen course angler  but when Rutland Water opend in 1976 that's when I started fly fishing, I caught my first trout (2lb brown) on opening day of that year and my first rainbow on the second day it weighed 2lbs as well, and I will never forget those two fish and from then on I was hooked.  I taught myself how to tie flies sometimes not very good but the've all caught fish. I have  been a member of Rutland Water Fly Fishers club for a number of years and I believe that every new angler who is thinking of starting fly fishing should join their local club, the help and knowledge you gain from other members is worth a great deal. I am now a qualified leval 2 coach in game angling thanks to both Anglian Water and Rutland fly fishers.  A few years ago (about 10) when I started the Rutland Gillies web site, I found that there was little or no information that you could get hold of, about other fisheries, so after a few phone calls Rutland Gillies was founded with the help from a very close friend.  Each year the site has grown from strength to strength and the word has got out that this is your site, I mean it's for you the anglers who visit the site each week in your hundreds. At this point can I say a big thank you for all your E-mails and support for the site over the past years. We will endeavour to keep you updated with all the latest news from in and around the fishing scene in the UK.

Take a look at the reports page for weekly up to date information about your local waters.

We have a fisherman’s page so you can send in your own reports, stories and photos.

We also have a forum page so you can talk to all your friends and colleuges, also bye and sell, shear imformation.

Accommodation can be arranged to suit your needs. So why not treat a partner, friend or even yourself to a days trout fishing on some of the best fly fishing waters in the country.

If you own a Hotel, Guest House, Caravan or Camp site near any of the Fisheries on this web site and you would like to advertise them please contact Rutland Gillies and we will be pleased to put your place on the web page that is relevant.

UK Weather

  • Back to school as summer tries a return
Pressure rises at first as a small anticyclone builds over us. This settles and grows over the first two weeks of September but may well be swept away in the last two weeks to bring in some autumnal wind and rain.
