The Fishery is in excellent form at the moment and most days saw tremendous hatches with lot of fish moving on all of the pools. The top of the water action has been excellent with Shipmans Buzzers, CDC Emergers and dry Olives accounting for plenty of fish. Damsels, Diawl Bach, small GRHE, Cats Whisker and orange Fritz have also been working well. The biggest rainbow of the week was a 12½ lb fish caught by Nick Howarth of Nuneaton who was fishing from a boat on Great Pool and took this along with five others on a small Buzzers fished on a floating line. Jonathan Preston of Solihull took an 11lb 8oz rainbow on a small black Buzzer whilst fishing from the bank of Cocks Close. Alan Wooldridge of Solihull caught five and returned a further six on small Skinny Buzzers whilst fishing from the bank of Cocks Close with the best fish going 5lb 8oz. Baden Hollingworth of Sutton Coldfield caught six fish on green Buzzers whilst fishing from a boat on the Hall Pool. Best areas are the old boat jetty and high bank on Cocks Close, the middle island to the dam wall on Great Pool and the cattle drink and dam wall on Hall Pool. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 12/5/13 Last week 131 rods caught 452 fish for an average of 3.45. A mixed week with very hot conditions at the start of the week and more unsettled towards the weekend and that made the fishing a little up and down. Even during the brightest conditions there have been plenty of fish moving on the top and more imitative patterns are best at the moment. CDC Emergers, black Buzzers, Damsel Nymph, Diawl Bach, GRHE and Bloodworm are the top patterns Best fish of the week was a 12lb rainbow caught and released by fishery regular Harold Pritchett of Mancetter who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and he also had fish of 8lb 9oz and 4lb 12oz which all came to his own tied black Buzzers fished on a floating line. The Packington Fly Fishers held their annual match on Great Pool against the Royal Oak Fly Fishers and most anglers enjoyed a great day catching their five fish limits. The best fish caught during the event was a 10lb 13oz rainbow which was caught by Leicester angler W Deakin and this was taken on a Buzzer fished on a floating line. Ray Bull of Nuneaton had a 9lb 9oz rainbow amongst his five fish catch and these fell to Lures. On the members’ waters Hall Pool, Alan Moore of Coventry fished from a boat and took four fish and returned a further five fish which fell to Buzzers and Damsel Nymphs fished on a floating line. A bit of a mixed week with a combination of weather saw the fishing great one day and harder the next. There were some cracking fish caught and the best fish of the week was a 14lb rainbow caught by Peter Blake of Meriden who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close and he took it on a black Nugget Lure fished on an intermediate line. Mr R Barton of Nuneaton caught and returned a fish of 10lb whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and this one fell to a Diawl Bach on a floating line. Arthur Topp of Stretton also caught a 10lb rainbow, again from a boat on Cocks Close and this one fell to a black and green Lure fished on a floating line. On the members’ water Hall Pool, Mick Hanson and Peter Wrigley of Nuneaton shared a boat with both catching six fish each and Mick’s best fish was a 9lb rainbow and Peter’s, an 8lb 8oz rainbow, both used black Buzzers on a floating line. Dave Robinson of Solihull fished Park Meadow from a boat and caught six fish to 4½lb on a Gold Head Damsel. Top flies are Damsel Nymph, GRHE, Diawl Bach, black or olive Buzzers, CDC Emergers, pearly P T Nymph, Bloodworm and P T Nymph. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 28/4/13 Last week 122 rods caught 406 fish for an average of 3.33. The fishing was a little harder than the previous week but generally all pools are still fishing reasonably well. Plenty of fish in the 3 – 5lb range are coming out with the odd bigger fish. Terry Holder of Leicester caught the largest rainbow of the week at 7lb 6oz and it was taken on a black Buzzer whilst fishing from the bank of Cocks Close. Andrew Moulder of Dorridge fished from a boat on the Great Pool and caught seven fish with the largest at 6lb 8oz and these all fell to orange Lures fished on an intermediate line. Brian Healey of Coventry fished the bank of Cocks Close and caught six fish to 6lb on small olive Buzzers fished on a floating line. Dave Woollaston of Warwick also fished the bank of Cocks Close and caught a five fish limit including fish of 4lb 5oz and 4lb 4oz which all came to a Damsel Nymph. The Hall Pool is fishing very well and probably the pick of the members’ pools at the moment, Mike Ravenscroft fished on there and caught five fish to over 5lb and these came to small Nymphs. Top patterns at the moment are black or olive Buzzer, Gold Head Damsel, Diawl Bach, GRHE, Bloodworm, CDC Emerger and Cats Whisker. The Fishery is in excellent form with all of the pools producing lots of fish. Some very good evening rises are occurring, particularly on the warmer days. Fish are being caught on a variety of tactics and flies with floating line and small Nymphs such as pearly P T Nymph, GRHE, Diawl Bach and small Gold Head Damsels all working well. For those who prefer pulling Lures, Fritz patterns, Cats Whisker, black Tadpole and Minkies are still producing plenty of pulls. The best rainbow of the week was a 9lb 6oz fish caught by Neil Jeacock of Wokingham who was fishing from a boat on the Great Pool and took it along with six others on a Damsel Nymph. Robert White of Lapworth fished the bank of Cocks Close and caught four fish including samples of 9lb 4oz and 8lb 2oz and these fell to a Diawl Bach fished on a floating line. Mr A Griffiths of Birmingham fished from a boat on Cocks Close and caught eight fish to 8lb 4oz and these fell to a black Buzzer or a Cul de Canard fished on a floating line. Paul Hanson of Nuneaton fished on the Hall Pool from a boat and caught eight fish to 6lb and all of them came to a Buzzer. The best areas are the road bank and old boat jetty corner of Cocks Close, the shallow water on the Great Pool, the dam wall and cattle drink on Hall Pool and Park Meadow is fishing well along the far bank from the boat jetty. With the weather turning milder it was quite a busy week and most anglers were catching on all pools although the wind on Sunday did slow the fishing down. The best fish of the week was an 8lb 10oz rainbow caught by Andrew Moulder of Dorridge who was fishing the Hall Pool with a Cats Whisker and it was the best of a seven fish catch. Michael Hanson of Nuneaton caught one at 8lb 8oz from the Great Pool on a Buzzer. Ian Nelson of Solihull fished the Park Meadow pool and caught fish of 6lb and 4lb on a green Buzzer. On Cocks Close, Rod Lacey had eight fish to 5lb on Pheasant Tail Nymphs and John Ponting visited the fishery twice last week and fished catch and release on Cocks Close, both times catching ten fish using dry patterns and Buzzers. The most successful patterns at the moment are Cats Whiskers, Damsel Nymphs, black or olive Buzzers, Diawl Bachs, Hares Ear and Bloodworms. The best areas have been the road bank and old boat jetty corner of Cocks Close, the shallower water to the left of the boat jetty at Great Pool, the far end of Hall Pool and again the shallower water on Park Meadow. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 7/4/13 Last week 110 rods caught 385 fish for an average of 3.50. It was a busier week despite the cold easterly winds and most anglers have enjoyed reasonable success. The best fish of the week was a 15lb+ rainbow which was caught by Mr P Miah of Birmingham who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and it was the best of a five fish catch taken on Cats Whiskers. Fishery bailiff Adrian Joyce, caught and released a 10lb+ from the bank of Cocks Close and this took his own tied Damsel Nymph. Baden Hollingworth of Sutton Coldfield caught six fish to 7lb 8oz whilst fishing from a boat on Great Pool and these all came to a pink Ugly Bugger fished on an intermediate line. Gary Cooper also of Sutton Coldfield caught seven fish to 5lb on white Lures from a boat on the Park Meadow pool. Craig Smith of Nuneaton won the Troutmasters ‘Fish Off’ catching a five fish limit and time bonus for 19lb. Second place was Wayne Johns of Tamworth who also had a five fish limit plus time bonus for 17lb. The Packington Fly Fishers held their annual Challenge Match fishing from the boats on Cocks Close and the winner was Mark Sturgess of Nuneaton who took his five fish limit weighing 11lb including a fish of 3lb 14oz. Top patterns are Gold Head Damsel, Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, Diawl Bach, Bloodworm, white Minkies and GRHE. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 31/3/13 Last week 48 rods caught 210 fish for an average of 4.37. Another very cold week saw most of the pools covered in ice early in the mornings but clearing through the day. Despite this, the fishing has been very good with Cocks Close doing well from both bank and boats. The old boat jetty area, the road bank and the sand bank have been the hot spots on Cock Close. Top patterns have been Damsel Nymph, Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, Diawl Bach, GRHE and Bloodworm. The biggest fish of the week was a re-appearance of the big brown that lives in Cocks Close and was caught by Mitch Stokes of Coventry who estimated it at 15lb+ before returning it safely and this was the biggest of an eight fish catch coming to Damsel Nymphs. Peter Wrigley of Nuneaton caught a 14lb rainbow on a black and green Lure and was the best of a six fish catch whilst fishing from a boat on the Great Pool. Dennis Tidmarsh of Birmingham took a 13lb 8oz rainbow from a boat on Hall Pool and this came to a Cats Whisker fished on an intermediate line. Les Watson from Coventry also had a big fish from the Hall Pool and this was a 12lb 12oz rainbow which fell to a black Lure. John Considine of Leicester fished catch and release from the bank of Cocks Close and caught over 20 fish to 6lb using small black Tadpoles and Gold Head Damsel Nymphs. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 24/3/13 Last week 36 rods caught 100 fish for an average of 2.77. Another incredibly cold week with rod numbers declining as the weather got worse through the week. The fishing though has been good with most anglers enjoying decent sport Andy Gudger of Allesley and Geoff Hadley of Stafford shared a boat on Cocks Close and caught 11 fish each with the largest going 6lb 14oz for Geoff which won the biggest fish of the week. They both caught on Damsel Nymph and Buzzers fished on floating lines. Dave Wollaston of Warwick caught nine fish to 6lb 10oz on Gold Head Damsels whilst fishing from the bank of Cocks Close. Less Watson of Coventry caught five fish to 4lb from a boat on Cocks Close and these all came to white Lures. Ade Cooper of Maxstoke fished the bank amongst all the snow on Sunday and amazingly caught on small CDC dries with fish moving all over the pool on Cocks Close, his biggest fish went just over 6lb. Both boat and bank anglers are doing very well on Cocks Close with the high bank area and around the middle willows the hotspots. The best fish of the week was a rainbow of 10lb 2oz caught by Adrian Cooper of Maxstoke who bank fishing on Cocks Close and took it along with five other fish on his own tied Damsel pattern. Mr Pendrey of Coventry fished catch and release from a boat on Cocks Close and caught 15 fish to 5½lb on Damsel Nymph and Nomad Lures. John Taylor of Birmingham caught six fish on Monday when the temperatures were so low the rod rings were continuously freezing up but he persevered and took fish to 3½ lb, again on a Damsel Nymph. Baden Hollingworth of Sutton Coldfield fished from a boat on the members’ water, Hall Pool and caught five fish to 4lb on a Damsel Nymph and black Buzzer fished on a floating line. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 10/3/13 Last week 69 rods caught 248 fish for an average of 3.59. Some spring like weather early in the week got the fish moving really well and throughout the week there were some tremendous rises to olive buzzers, even as the weather turned colder at the weekend. Small Buzzers were accounting for a few fish but the best tactic was to fish a Gold Head Damsel on a floating line. Black and white Lures, Bloodworm and small Nymphs such as GRHE, Diawl Bach and P T Nymph also picked up a few fish this week. The largest fish of the week was 12lb 8oz caught by Derek Cope of Telford who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close and he took it on a Hares Ear Nymph. Chris Lowe of Sutton Coldfield caught and released fish of 11lb 8oz and 10lb 2oz whilst fishing from the bank of Cocks Close and this was the best of an eight fish catch and they all came to small olive Flashback Buzzers. Brian James of Coleshill took five and released a further five, again from the bank of Cocks Close and these all fell to a Gold Head Damsel. On the members’ waters, Bob Wilson of Rugby fished Park Meadow from a boat and caught five fish to 5lb on a suspended Buzzer fished on a floating line. Barry Smith of Coventry caught five fish from the Great Pool which all came Lures. All of the members’ waters are now back in action and although they have been quiet due to the weather they are fishing well and like Cocks Close there are plenty of fish moving on the top. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 3/3/13 Last week 78 rods caught 212 fish for an average of 2.70. Another very cold week but at least it was dry and for most, the fishing was good. The biggest fish was a 12lb 6oz rainbow caught by Mr D Jones of Solihull who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close and took it on a Cats Whisker Lure. Mr L Hancox of Bristol took an 8lb 10oz rainbow, again from the bank of Cocks Close and this one came to Gold Head Damsel fished on a floating line. Ade Cooper of Maxstoke fished the bank of Cocks Close and caught four fish, all on small CDC dries with his biggest going 5lb. The members’ waters Great Pool and Hall Pool are now back in action. Great Pool in particular fished well with Mick Hanson of Nuneaton catching seven fish from a boat with the biggest a blue trout of 5lb. These all came to a Cats Whisker fished on an intermediate line. On the Park Meadow pool, Gary Cooper of Sutton Coldfield caught seven fish to 3lb on a white Lure. The cold weather saw the numbers of anglers drop through the week and the fishing was quite hard by the end of the week. There were some nice fish caught though and the best fish of the week was a 12lb rainbow caught by 12 year old Jack Preston of Solihull who was fishing with his younger brother on the bank at Cocks Close. They caught a total of four fish which all came to a Cats Whisker Lure fished on an intermediate line. Paul Akerman of Coventry fished from the bank of Cocks Close and took a 9lb 6oz rainbow. Brian Ward of Sutton Coldfield caught five fish to 4lb using a Damsel Nymph whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close. Mr Baden Hollingworth of Sutton Coldfield fished Park Meadow pool and caught six fish on Bloodworm and white Lure fished on a floating line. The weeks largest fish was an 8lb rainbow caught by Richard Knight of Bham who was fishing from the bank of cocks close and took it on a silver minkie.Mr S Wiseall of Melbourne caught a 7-4 rainbow which fell to bloodworm pattern whilst fishing from a boat on cocks close.Mr Bowen of Bham fished from a boat on Park Meadow pool and took 7 fish to 5lbs on white lures. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 3/2/13 Last week 66 rods caught 181 fish for an average of 2.74. A better week with the milder conditions bringing a few anglers out but the very windy days made life a little awkward. The better areas were where the wind was blowing into and the high bank and road bank of Cocks Close were the hotspots. The best fish of the week was a 9lb 10oz rainbow caught by Chris Close of Birmingham who fished from a boat on Cocks Close and he took it on a Bloodworm pattern fished under an indicator and he also had a double ticket catching a total of 15 fish on the same tactics. Fishery regular, Ray Inman of Birmingham, continued with his superb run of catching better fish with an 8lb 8oz rainbow which also came to a Bloodworm pattern and this was the best of a five fish bag. Mr H Shrimpton of Rugby caught an 8lb 2oz fish amongst an eight fish catch from a boat on Cocks Close and these came to Daddy Long Legs and Hoppers fished just sub surface. Paul Reay of Birmingham fished black Lures and Buzzers from a boat on Park Meadow and took five fish to 5lb. The top patterns have been black Buzzer, Bloodworm, Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, Nomad, Appetizer and Diawl Bach. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 27/1/13 Last week there were 16 rods caught 35 fish for an average of 2.06. The snow and ice saw off most anglers this week but there were a few hardy souls brave enough to give it a try. Most of the pools were frozen over but throughout the past week there were places to fish on the Day Ticket water, Cocks Close. Ray Inman of Birmingham had a great days fishing from the bank, catching seven fish to 3lb on a Bloodworm pattern fished on a floating line. Messrs Hugh Shrimpton and Tom Morris of Rugby shared a boat on Sunday and caught ten fish up to 4½lb using Hares Ear Nymphs and Cats Whiskers. Ade Cooper of Maxstoke fished the bank and caught four fish to 4lb on a Damsel Nymph. The sand bank area just outside the lodge has been the best area with fish moving well around there. The lakes were mostly frozen through the past week but a few spots remained clear and the few anglers that fished caught well. The best fish caught was an 8lb rainbow by Ray Inman of Birmingham who used a black and green Lure to tempt it along with another two at 5lb. Ray caught seven fish in total from a boat on Cocks Close. Chris Close of Birmingham caught five fish to 3lb on a Bloodworm pattern fished on a floating line and Andy Wilson also of Birmingham caught five on a Hot Tailed Viva Zonker fished on an intermediate line. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 13/1/13 Last week there were 64 rods caught 168 fish for an average of 2.62. A much better week with plenty of fish moving on the top and being caught to a variety of tactics. Black or green Lures, Cats Whiskers or Minkies fished on an intermediate line has been a very affective tactic. Buzzer and Bloodworm patterns fished under an indicator has also scored well and even dry flies are accounting for a few fish this week. The best fish of the week was a 14lb rainbow caught by Mick Hanson of Nuneaton who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and he took it on a black Tadpole fished on an intermediate line. John Considine of Leicester fished from the bank on Cocks Close and caught and released eight fish with the biggest estimated at 10lb+ and these fell to a green and white Gold Headed Lure fished on a sinking line. Ray Inman of Birmingham continues his good form with the big fish, catching a 9lb 5oz rainbow in a four fish catch taken on Cats Whisker. Harold Pritchett of Mancetter fished the members’ water Park Meadow and caught a total of 11 fish to 7lb which all fell to a Damsel Nymph fished on a floating line. The best areas have been the high bank and around the middle willows on Cocks Close with the middle of the pool best on Park Meadow. The members’ waters, Great Pool and Hall Pool are looking much better now the colour has started to drop out and should be fishable very soon. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 6/1/13 Last week there were 93 rods caught 190 fish for an average of 2.04. The milder conditions saw more anglers venture out last week and most were rewarded with some fish although flat calm weather made sport a little more difficult than of late. The best fish of the week was an 8lb 4oz rainbow caught by Barry Waring of Coventry who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and he took it on a Cats Whisker. Eddie Smith of Coventry returned a brown of 7lb whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and this fell to a Diawl Bach fished on a floating line. John Considine of Leicester fished from the bank on Cocks Close and caught and returned seven fish to 5lb which all came to a Gold Head Damsel. On the members’ waters, Park Meadow, Gary Cooper of Sutton Coldfield caught seven fish to 4lb on a white Lure. The best flies are Cats Whisker, black and green Tadpole, Fritz Lures, Gold Head Damsel, Bloodworm and black Buzzer. There were a lot of fish moving on Cocks Close, particularly in the afternoon and a few fish even fell to black dry flies. Best areas are the wires bank and high bank on Cocks Close. The wet and windy weather put off a lot of anglers who would normally have fished during the Christmas break. Those who fished were not disappointed as there were some cracking fish caught. The best being, a fish estimated at 14lb caught and returned by Jonathan Preston of Solihull who took it on a Cats Whisker fished on an intermediate line from Cocks Close pool. Mick Hanson of Nuneaton caught a 12lb 8oz rainbow whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and this was the best of a five fish bag taken on black and green Lures. Ray Inman of Birmingham also had one at 12lb 8oz which fell to a Straggle Cats Lure fished on a floating line, he also took another of 10lb 8oz later in the week and this came to a black Fritz Lure. *Ben Hookes of Birmingham caught an 11lb rainbow which came to an Appetizer fished on a sinking line. The best tactics have been to fish an intermediate line with a long leader using black and green Lures, Cats Whisker, Tadpoles, Fritz Lures, Gold Head Damsel Nymph or Minkies. FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 9/12/12 Last week 62 rods caught 118 fish for an average of just under 2 fish per rod. It was a little more difficult last week with the changeable weather conditions which saw some of the lakes frozen at times. There were some cracking fish caught with the best fish of the week, an 11lb rainbow caught by Dave McSheffrey of Birmingham who was fishing from a boat along side his father Mick who also took an 8lb rainbow. Both caught on a Damsel Nymph fished on a floating line. Ray Inman of Birmingham caught rainbows of 9lb 12oz and 5lb in a seven fish catch from a boat on Cocks Close on a sinking line fishing from a boat on Cocks Close. Chris Close of Birmingham took five fish to 6lb 2oz using small Damsels and Bloodworm patterns fished on floating lines. Top flies are Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, Gold Head Damsel, black Buzzer, Diawl Bach and Bloodworm. The biggest rainbow taken was a 14lb 4oz caught by *Richy Barton of Nuneaton who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close and he took it on a Cats Whisker pattern that was own tied.  The best fish of the week was a 14lb 8oz rainbow taken by Knowle angler *John Dews who was fishing from the bank on Cocks Close. John took the fish on a Cats Whisker fished on a slime line and was the best of a five fish limit.
