Highlight of the week was the landing of the heaviest fish of the season so far caught by season ticket holder  Steve Dutton who took this magnificent specimen rainbow at exactly 13lb off the Addington Road bank.Steve was fishing a floating line with black buzzers at 2-4 feet and he also caught a total of 20 rainbows with all fish being safely released to the water.

week 6/5/13 to 12/6/13

The water warmed up this week finally and the hatches of buzzers and olives has been quite prolific particularly at the latter part of the week.Consequently the fishing also picked up and with the cloud cover there has been some good catches of fish up to 3lbs mostly taken on buzzer patterns.Black with holo red cheeks/white cheeks has been the prominent colour although olive buzzers have also now taken a few fish. GH Damsel Nymph has also started to catch.Fish have been feeding all day on some days which has been evident on the amount in the stomach contents in some fish when spooned.
Pick of the boat anglers have been Andy Baranowski of Northampton,Steve Quartly of London and Paul Shephard of Bedford who all have taken double figure numbers of fish all on buzzer patterns in 3-4 feet depth.
Bank anglers also doing well and catching their limits before catching and releasing numerous fish back safely to fight another day.Floating lines and long leaders being the best tactics.
Average catch rate has also increased this week and good days has seen this reach close on 5 fish per angler.
Some anglers also report hooking and losing some very large trout which are now roaming the lake.Weekly stocking continues with the latest having released fish well into double figures .

PRESS RELEASE

3th April 2013

Word count – 300

Once again the Masonic Fishing Charity (also known as the MTSFC) Northants & Huntingdonshire branch has held another triumphant fishing event at Ringstead Grange.  Not only did the sun shine, but as is the norm at Ringstead, the lake continued to offer exceedingly good sport with catch after catch being reeled in at impressive weights.  John Mackenzie, the Chairman of the area’s MFC said,

“Ringstead Grange Fishery has allowed us to hold fishing events here for the past 8 years and it is thanks to their attention to keeping the lakes in tip top condition, well stocked and their mindfulness to safety that makes it possible for us to hold events where we can offer disabled and handicapped children a country side fishing experience and a day to remember”

John Kemp is one of the volunteer casters whose wife Rosemary assists in providing a delicious BBQ for the children and helpers at lunch time.  She wanted to say how pretty everyone thought the lake side is and that she frequently brought her sketch pad with her so she can capture the surrounding beauty on paper whilst her husband quietly and contently fished from a boat.

Jim Webster, the founder of the Charity commented,

“on behalf of everyone involved with the MFC, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ringstead Grange Fishery for allowing us to hold this event which brings a lot of joy to local children who have to cope on a daily basis with a wide range of disabilities”

John Mackenzie concluded by saying, “there is always plenty of fish at Ringstead and the children manage to catch quite a few but the main catch of the day has to be the smiles on their faces each time they see they see they have a bite”.

At last the weather started to improve this week and those anglers who braved the weather in previous weeks were back again and catching well from the bank as the results above show .[Nick Wright and Mr Pratt].
Best tactics have been floating lines with long leaders with small lures or as the latter part of the week demonstrated nymph patterns which are just starting to be productive. The fish are still fairly deep but with warmer weather promised they should now start moving up in the water.James and son George Foster in the boat at the weekend produced the best fish of the week an estimated 7-8lb rainbow which was safely returned to the water.

Week 25/3/13 to 31/3/13

Hi All
The lake has been partly frozen over for some days in the mornings but has still been able to fish the margins but the easterly and north easterly winds have kept temperatures down as has done in the recent weeks.
However bank anglers still having some good sport with floating and intermediate lines fishing deep to catch some excellent rainbows up to 7lb.Best patterns have again been black&green tadpoles, montana, orange fritz, bloodworm and cats whisker.
Pick of the anglers this week has been Reg Bellham from Northampton with 10 rainbows[5 returned safely].Andy Baranowski from Northampton with a rainbow of 5lb 12oz

[see photo] in his catch.Mr White with an estimated rainbow of 6-7lb in his catch and release haul.Mr Herridge with 5 fish including rainbows of 4lb 4oz and 3lb 12oz all caught on various small lure patterns.
Warmer conditions should improve angler numbers and prospects for the next few weeks excellent as some large fish start to move in the margins.Plenty of fish from 21/2lb to 4lb showing.
Water Clarity-Good

Johhny Steel  Hamerton Rainbow 5lb 4oz B&G Tadpole

Well winter still not gone this week and cold winds and low temperatures kept all but the very hardy anglers away. This kept the fish in the lower depths and the anglers that did venture out caught some excellent quality specimens.
Most successful patterns were again small fish imitations such as Cats Whisker,Montana,Orange Fritz and B&G Tadpoles.
Some fish caught now showing signs of feeding on bloodworms so imitations of this pattern now worth a try.
Weekly stocking continuing withsome excellent rainbows averaging 21/4lb with a number of larger specimen fish indicated by the number of 5lb plus fish caught since the opening of the season.

Mr Beattie Knebworth                    Rainbow 5lb 2oz GH Damsel

Best Bag: Steve Brown                   5 Rainbows  25lb 4oz

Brrrrrr-the bitterly cold north easterly and easterly winds lastr week kept most anglers at home but the change in wind direction to the south west and slight temperature increase brought anglers out at the weekend and they caught well.
The banks fishing better than boats with tactics of floating and intermediate lines with black&green patterns again taking most fish.
The pick of the anglers was Steve Brown of Rugby who took 9 rainbows with the best at 6lb 4oz.Steves five fish limit reached 25lb 4oz with others being safely released safely to the water along the lodge bank.
Other successful angler was Phil Kores from Bedford who had a brace of rainbows at 4lb 12oz in his catch on sunburst blob pattern from caravan bay.
The rise in temperature sparked hatches of small black flies so worth trying small black nymphs on the warmer days.
Most anglers experiencing catching excellent quality fish in the crystal clear water within easy casting distance from the bank.
Prospects excellent with improvement in temperatures and spring hopefully around the corner.

Week 4/3/13 to 10/3/13

Best Fish this week:

Johnny Bromilow Cambridge-Rainbow 5lb 14oz[Photo attached]
Mr Knights Cambridge-Rainbow 5lb 0oz

The clear water conditions have again contributed to some good catches of fish this week with plenty of rainbowsbetween 3lb&6lb.
Best tactics again have been floating or intermediate lines fishing at 4-6 feet with black and green patterns eg.goldhead damsels, black&green tadpoles, montanas[silver head] and cats whiskers.Anglers report plenty of takes with some having lost some very large fish. The banks taking more fish than the boats as the fish continue to move closer in the margins.
Prime locations on the lake continue to be caravan corner, sandbank, lodge bank and platforms, willow bay and mill corner indicating the spread of fish around the lake.
Several anglers report having their limit catch and releasing some excellent quality fish with the pick of the bunch being fellow anglers Messrs Bromilow and Knights from Cambridge who had 9 rainbows between them with the best at 5lb 14oz and 5lb 0oz respectively.
Bailiff Kevin Height had an excellent catch of 9 rainbows in Mill Corner between 3lb&6lb on an intermediate line fished at distance with a black&green tadpole pattern some of which took on the drop in 4-6feet of water. All fish returned safely.
The weather conditions still play havoc despite the good fishing and its expected that this will only improve more as the warmer weather returns.

Hi All,   welcome back to Ringstead Grange which opens its gates for the new season on the 1st March.Work around the banks has been in progress to clear the effects of the winter flooding and water levels are now subsiding to become crystal clear again.
The emphasis again this season will be the stocking of the excellent quality rainbows with plenty of fish exceeding the 4lb mark.
Day and evening ticket prices have been held this year with only marginal increases to boat and season tickets making Ringstead the most competetively priced trout fishery in the area.
The fishery welcomes back all its regular anglers and newcomers for what it is hoped will be a much improved season with excellent sport for all.
For further details and bookings please contact myself on 07788 426369.

Hi All
week 19/11/12 to 25/11/12

Well what a week this has been with the adverse weather and the consequences thereafter. The week began well and up to Friday those few anglers that turned out did have some good sport from bank and boat.Pick of the boat anglers were Bill Callaway from Harrold again with 6 rainbows in two hours between 21/2lb and 3lb all on montana pattern with rubber legs.Steve Dutton from Thorpe Waterville had 7 rainbows on his catch and release season ticket with several fish lost during the spell in the boat.Max Price from Grafton Underwood had the best fish of the week with his brace of rainbows one of which weighed 3lb 8oz again on a black chenille montana pattern.

.
Best tactics still with floating lines in 2-4 feet of water as Tim Haynes and his grandson Tom Walker connected with the correct method as they took 5 rainbows to 3lb 4oz[ in the photo attached]

The cooler conditions have started to improve the fishing slowly this week and again those anglers which have done well this week were Mr Gene Robinson of Raunds ,Mr N Silver of Godmanchester and later in the week Mr J Spolton of Kettering who all took their limit catches from the boat.Best patterns this week have been Diawl Bach,Hoppers ,Damsel Nymph,Hares Ear and now buzzer nymphs starting to catch in black&green.
Well done on Sunday to Mr Ken&Tom Baker from Sydney Australia who attended Ringstead for the first time with Mr Mike Blane.Celebrating "Fathers Day" in Australia Ken who had not been fly fishing previously had a short tuition and promptly went out in the boat and caught a 21/2lb rainbow on the blue Diawl Bach["Little Blue Devil"]Altogether all 3 anglers caught 5 rainbows and had a memorable day but Ken went away with the largest fish[see attached photos-Ken is on the right of the photograph].We hope they all return to repeat the day but it may be a little too far for just the weekend!!

Best Fish this week-Jason Spolton of Kettering Rainbow 4lb 12oz-Bloodworm Pattern[photo enclosed]

The weather conditions have featured strongly on the number of anglers who have ventured out this week.Again though those that did were rewarded with some exciting sport with plenty of rainbows and browns falling to mainly buzzer patterns. The fish have been up in the water and those fishing floating lines with buzzers and hoppers have been the most successful.
Lake olives and hawthorn flies have again been in abundance in all areas of the lake but mainly on the Addington Road sheltered from the cold winds.

 .

The exceptional catch of the week was taken by regular angler Edward Telfer of Wellingborough with a rainbow in excess of 12lb from the lodge platform bank area on an orange fritz pattern.Edward who attends the fishery with his carer was absolutely delighted with his catch and as a memento will be presented with a photograph to remind him of his achievement.

This week has seen superb fish being caught and this was topped by a fishery record grown on rainbow of 19lb 8oz captured by David Hastie of Ravensthorpe on a black&green fritz pattern from the caravan corner bank.Notably this fish was landed on a 5lb b.s. leader.Another fantastic rainbow of 15lb 2oz was landed by Robin Holt of Milton Keynes from the boat on a black&green goldhead pattern. It took Robin half an hour to land this fish after putting up a terrific battle on a light leader.
Excellent quality stock fish are being placed into the fishery weekly and more double figure fish are expected to be caught as only one of this seasons larger fish has been caught to date.

Mike also caught a lovely 2lb 13oz perch. Quite a few perch between 3 and 4 pounds have been caught by boat anglers during the recent predator weekends.

Mike and Bob caught all their fish on artificial lures from a boat from numerous spots on the lake.
