LN8 3NE | | Tel. 01673 878453 | | | Weekly results week ending – 26th April 121 rods caught 539 fish rod av. 4.5 A milder week than of late but more often than not very bright and breezy, never a great combination. On overcast days or early morning plenty of fish keen to feed as the buzzer hatches continue to increase. Lots of sizeable nymphs about with dark olive, black or brown with light ribs the best to go for. Imitative patterns really are best fished slowly or static and don’t be afraid to stick the dries on when you see activity, Shipman’s and Bob’s Bits both successful. Ted Wherry fished last weekend from a drifting boat and always has faith in the dries, he took 27 fish and the best of the week at 6Ib on a Yellow Owl. Evening sport is beginning to hot up and even on cooler nights the rise can be quite something. Why not take advantage of an evening out and go for a reduced rate evening ticket? May 1st sees the beginning of the evening ticket available from 5:30, just £11 for 2 fish then catch & release or the £9 c & r option. Jason Foster Weekly results week ending – 19th April 105 rods caught 592 fish rod av. 5.6 Tres windy!! Howling southerly gale pretty much all week until Friday morning. The upside to that was the temperatures dramatically rising to 18-20 degrees, really helping to send water temperature in the right direction. Fishing was obviously tricky in such conditions but the end of the week finished on a high note with plenty of sport to buzzers, nymphs and dries. Sparsely tied diawl bach perhaps about best fished slow or static on a floater. Dry Shipman’s, CDC and emerger patterns all good too. Fish have been well spread due to varying wind direction, so no particular best areas and boat sport beginning to finally liven up as the resident fish ‘wake-up’. Best rainbow this week to Mick Jellis who’s visiting from West Sussex at 8Ib 12oz, it took a black cruncher – pic attached. Troutmaster fish-off took place yesterday and went really well. Martin Rowson won after a great performance landing 27 fish to diawl bach and buzzers, his 6 fish bag weighed 12Ib. Neil Deakin was 2nd with 11Ib, Mick Jellis 3rd with 10Ib 8oz. Neil will represent Toft in the September final at Grafham Water as Martin will be too busy with harvest. Jason Foster
Weekly results week ending – 12th April 106 rods caught 456 fish rod av. 4.3 Dare I say it? Go on, I will – it’s feeling a little warmer. Just this last few days there’s been a definite positive feel in the air and I think the fish feel it too. Lots of activity on calmer afternoons with black buzzers, diawl bachs, crunchers and even CDC dries working well. Still plenty to the lure boys too but fish are definitely beginning to look for food. Best areas are west bank, north west corner, right around to black pipe, with a fair few fish either side of the valve tower. The biggest fish of the week and season was caught on the south side of the tower and at 16Ib 7oz was a fair fish to catch. Mandy Ashton from Sheffield (pic attached) was the lucky captor and the fish took a white minkie. Several other doubles this week too including 10, 14 and 15Ib fish all of which were returned. NG2 7FE Jason Foster Weekly results week ending – 5th April 68 rods caught 259 fish rod av. 3.8 Chilly winds blowing again leading to another challenging week. Unfortunately the majority of interested fish are on the downwind shore, so fishing for them has been far from enjoyable. All usual methods working well, slow intermediates with boobies or small lures on the point with a buzzer or diawl on the dropper. That may all start to change if this week continues in the milder way that it’s begun, we really should be in the midst of excellent buzzer and nymph fishing by now, but water temperatures are quite obviously yet to move in the right direction. Best fish of the week to Kate Evans from Bardney at 12Ib+, caught on a cat’s whisker and released, pic attached, she has done really well this year so far with big fish!!
I’m sorry to announce the death of Steve Parton, entertaining Nottingham tackle dealer, UK tubing pioneer, larger than life character and all round top bloke! I understand he suffered a massive stroke on Wednesday and passed away yesterday. Steve was once a regular visitor to Toft with his right hand man Jimmy Clements and I’m sure many of you will remember him from back then and perhaps enjoyed reading his offerings in the trout magazines over the years? He was a lover of golf and in recent years had slowly begun to wind down his business to pursue his love of politics and was a Nottingham City coucillor. I’ll email funeral details when I get them, attached a pic of a rather smarter Steve than I remember! Jason Foster Weekly results week ending – 22nd March 47 rods caught 174 fish rod av. 3.7 F-reez-‘in! That about sums it up. Bitter easterly winds, snow, sleet, rain, freezing fog and just brief glimmers of sunshine again keeping the majority of you indoors. Short sessions for those that did venture out and always fish around, thankfully on the upwind shore!! A few more to buzzers, diawl bach and bloodworm patterns this week, perhaps fish feeding sparked by increased day length rather than temperature? Slow intermediates or floaters best with the usual washing line booby/nymph combo working well. 2 x £20 tagged fish paid out and Fred Bainbridge fished a comp. here yesterday and caught a forty quidder – but hadn’t paid his quid  . Biggest rainbow this week at 6Ib to Tom Garratt from Melbourne in Derbyshire, pic attached. Will the sun shine for Easter? It’s looking unlikely with the forecast but fingers still remain crossed. All the best, Jason Foster Weekly results week ending – 15th March 41 rods caught 202 fish rod av. 4.9 A return to Winter – not that it ever left!! Bitterly cold all week long, mostly with strong north and east winds adding a significant wind chill. For the few that did venture out sport was good as the rod average demonstrates, with many sessions being pretty short as the raw feel took hold. One tagged fish paid out last weekend and several others caught during the week to non-participating anglers. Martin Rowson top rod again, landing fifteen fish on Friday morning in less than 3 hours before the rain came – his cat’s whisker minkie booby still doing the damage, fished on a slow intermediate as slow as you like! Best fish to Broughton angler Ralph Gibson at 7Ib 8oz on a Viva, he’ll soon be acquiring a reputation as a specimen hunter if he carries on. For those of you with Sky TV, Tight Lines on Friday 22nd are scheduling a feature on Martin Introna with some footage from Toft, might be worth a look – you might learn something? I am p-r-a-y-i-n-g for SPRING – ‘nuff said! Jason Foster Weekly results week ending – 8th March 110 rods caught 448 fish rod av. 4.07 A funny old week, not least as I’ve eaten some dodgy chicken hence me typing this email at stupid o’clock on a Saturday morning! Quite nice last weekend for a day or two, then thick freezing fog all day Tuesday turning to damp, misty and raw conditions in strong easterly winds to end the week. Since Wednesday though sport’s dramatically picked up, perhaps helped by grey skies and a breeze? Same old story regarding methods, fish along the bank with intermediate lines for best results. Cat’s whisker, boobies, diawl bachs and buzzers all very good, fished as slow as possible. Fish have been fairly well spread but generally from black pipe to valve tower the best area, if you can cope with the north easterly wind? A few fish upwind too though and Jason James managed 6 on Wednesday all on small dries. Sue Irons caught the only tagged fish of the week and bagged £20, lots more have been released recently and many of these new fish are worth £40, so keep your eyes peeled!! Martin Rowson continues his great run so far this season, with his rod average around 14 fish a visit – have a word with him as he’s happy to share his methods. Big Bilsthorpe Merv also doing well, mainly on a booby/diawl bach combo, he caught & released the best of the week at 8Ib, pic attached. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to Spring’s arrival but if you’re happy to brave the cold it could be worth a visit. Weekly results week ending – 1st March 56 rods caught 344 fish rod av. 6.1 A chilly week on the whole once again but over the last day or two there’s been a marked improvement to the weather, which has sparked the fish in to action. Fished brilliantly with most methods working well. Casting along the bank is the best bet as the fish really are very close in, around 3 or 4 metres out. Small boobies on intermediates, diawl bachs and buzzers on floaters and even the odd fish to a dry. A couple of tagged fish out, one to Martin Rowson and the other to me – and NO, I hadn’t paid my pound Best fish of the week to Kate Evans from Bardney, she had a 10Ib rainbow which she released. More info on the website http://www.te-ff.org Jason Foster Weekly results week ending – 15th February 53 rods caught 302 fish rod av. 5.7 This week might be best described as chilly on the whole with a very raw feel at times, much improved over the last couple of days however. Fished very well again with the fish quite close in and not too deep - so floaters, midge tips or intermediates best. Washing line with a small booby blob on the point and a buzzer or a diawl bach on the dropper very good, or opt for straight lining a cat’s whisker or dark coloured minkie. Fish have been quite well spread so watch the wind a little and keep moving if needs be? A couple of really nice doubles caught and released this week, both fish overwintered and in cracking condition. Pics attached of Notts angler Alan Parkinson with a 10Ib 6oz fish and Ralph Gibson from Broughton near Scunthorpe with a 14Ib fish which took a small black goldhead lure. With a few nice days forecast now might be the time to dust off the gear? Jason Foster Weekly results week ending – 8th February 85 rods caught 463 fish rod av. 5.4 A half decent opening week with kind weather for the first day or two and then the winter winds returned. Most folk opted for fishing along the west bank to shelter from the stiff breeze. Fish have been pretty high up in the water with floaters, midge tips and intermediates best. Orange booby blobs, black lures, diawl bachs and crunchers all very good fished as slow as possible. Some nice resident browns out to 5Ib+ and the best rainbow weighed 11Ib to Mr.Moses. Looks like the next few days could be chilly again but I’m sure it’s worth a trip out for the brave amongst you. Jason Foster We’re just 3 days in to the 2013 season and off to a cracking start. The weather was kind on Friday and Saturday with the fierce westerly winds subsiding for 48 hours and offering great conditions. Relatively mild, bright and dry, quite nice for early season fishing. Mr.Barker from Nottingham was top rod on Friday landing 20 fish to 4Ib fishing a floater with buzzers and bloodworm. Lots more decent catches too on all manner of methods, intermediate lines and black lures, minkie boobies, orange blobs and one or two to diawl bach and nymph patterns. Best brownie over the weekend to Alan Malkin from Sheffield at 4Ib 8oz and Mr.Moses caught and released an 11Ib rainbow. Plenty of fish between valve tower and boats and the west bank to north west corner, no doubt there’ll be lots around the black pipe too if you’re brave enough? Below is a warm tribute written my his long standing fishing pal and friend David Stephens, attached is a picture of Tom. It’s with regret that I announce the death of Tom Wilson. I’m sure many of you remember Tom as he fished Toft regularly since its opening in 1974 and was an angling correspondent amongst his many other talents. I looked forward to his regular Thursday visits, not least for the witty anecdotes and jokes he would tell but also for the mint he offered me as a thank you for helping him load his boat. His funeral is tomorrow, Tuesday the 5th February, 2pm at Scunthorpe crematorium. Jason Foster
Toft Newton Fishery Morning and a Happy New Year if I haven’t wished you that already? Just a quick update to say Toft will be open this coming weekend for a final 2 days of any method fishing before the 2013 season kicks off on Friday 1st February. This is in addition to the planned 6 days as last weekend was cancelled due to the weather. The forecast is for a thawing few days with positive temperatures and South and West winds for the weekend, so why not come along if you can? Restocking for the new season will take place after the weekend and I’m happy to say that 2013 pricing will remain unchanged for now, if there are wholesale fish price increases later in the season then this may be reviewed. All the best, Jason Foster Best time for sport is mid morning to early afternoon as this is generally the warmest period on these short December days. Paul Baker from Hull landed the best brown and rainbow of the week, that rarely happens! His brown was 6Ib 13oz and the rainbow 10Ib 6oz and both fell to fry patterns, pic attached. Weekly results week ending - 23rd November 51 rods caught 153 fish rod av. 3 A pretty unsettled and at times extremely wet week, more than 25mm of rain fell in a very short time but luckily a few hardy souls turned out. Still fish around on the surface but generally they've been a little easier to catch a bit deeper. Slow intermediates with a booby on the point and nymph on the dropper have been best, fished slow figure of eight. Fish are pretty well spread but black pipe and north west corner areas have been good. Martin Rowson fished from the bank on Tuesday and managed 15 and he returned with Pete Cowan fishing from a drifting boat on Friday and they had 23 to 6Ib 8oz - still plenty of fish well out which is unusual this late on in the season. A cracking rainbow caught & released by John Littler at 14-12 and another 10Ib+ fish released by Glyn Riley, pics of each attached. A bit windy today and a dodgy week to follow I reckon but hopefully a few good days left yet before close on the 16th December. Weekly results week ending - 16th November 107 rods caught 355 fish rod av. 3.3 A milder week with fish remaining high in the water and showing well everyday. Size 16 to 20 buzzers and dries working for those that can see 'em and for those that can't then minkies, boobies and blobs on intermediates the order of the day. No particular best areas with variable winds but for the chance of a decent fry feeder then try near the wheelyboat. A couple of tagged fish out this week and a couple of doubles too. Ricky Varley returned a 12Ib 8oz fish from a boat, George Johnson from Spalding took a 13Ib rainbow on a small black buzzer (pic attached) and Dave McGeever from Ravenshead had a nice fish of 7Ib 10oz on a small dry. Fritz n Flies qualifying match went well last Saturday, Neil Deakin won landing 13 fish and Ian Norton was second. They've qualified for the final in February. Neil is fishing the 'Fishing for Heroes' charity final at Dever Springs tomorrow and I reckon this year he's going to win - best of luck. A reminder that we're open until Sunday 16th December with the friendly 'bring a prize' Fur & Feather' match being held on that day. From December 1st we'll open at 8am. Weekly results week ending - 9th November 65 rods caught 227 fish rod av. 3.6 Figures wise not a great week but they don't truly reflect the amount of sport on the less windy days. Plenty of takes, fish on and offers which of course don't make it in to the catch return book. Very raw feeling last weekend with a huge amount of fish showing on the top. Brian Simmons had a good day on Sunday with his orange FAB (foam arsed blob) fishing very slow, washing line style, he landed 9 and the best of the week caught & released at 9Ib 14oz. The Toft Newton Cup holder, Sue Irons, landed the best brownie of the week, a fantastic mended fish of 6Ib 8oz which took a cruncher. (pics attached)   Excellent sport too for the boat anglers with plenty of fish showing right across the middle, quite rare for this late on in the season but with natural flies still coming off it's maybe set to continue? A few on the masses of fry around the boat ramp but they haven't really got honed in yet. A milder few days ahead, according to Lisa Gallagher so come and make the most of this top of the water sport. Weekly results week ending - 2nd November 83 rods caught 382 fish rod av. 4.6 A chilly and at times wet week with a windy Friday thrown in for good measure. Fish still very active however even on these cooler days. Plenty around on the top and minkie boobies, floating fry and similar buoyant patterns pulled through the surface very good. Washing line with diawl bachs, buzzers and crunchers still worth a go though especially on the nicer afternoons. Fry feeding activity beginning to hot up, especially around the boat ramp area. Best out this week to Jim Bray from Chesterfield, a 14Ib rainbow on a black tadpole (pic attached . An 8Ib brownie too caught and released by Mr.Gomersall. . Some decent fish out this week including a 12Ib fish caught and released by Dave Holroyd, a 14Ib 4oz rainbow to Neil Deakin on a minkie booby (pic attached) and a 10Ib 3oz rainbow to Ken Leech on a woolley bugger.(pic attached) Neil Deakin Ken Leach

Although feeling chilly today - 4.7 degrees C as I write, apparently milder weather is due to return in a few days so Winter may not be here just yet? Oh and don't forget to put your clocks back an hour on Saturday night, don't want you turning up an hour early on Sunday morning and wondering where I am!! Jason Foster Weekly results week ending - 19th October 108 rods caught 624 fish rod av. 5.8 An excellent week and the most consistent by far for a while now. Fish on every day, really active up near the surface with all manner of methods effective. Small boobies, floating fry or muddlers fished on the point with lime green buzzers on the droppers best best. Lots on dries too with small CDC patterns being best. Fish holding mainly along the west bank and in the south east corner towards the black pipe. A couple of decent fish caught and released this week, John Wood with a 9Ib 5oz fish taken on a Klink and Warren Langridge with an 11Ib rainbow he caught last Saturday whilst practicing for Sunday's match - it took a small cat's whisker booby. (pic attached) The Fishing for Heroes event last weekend raised a very creditable £700 - big thanks and well done to all who took part in the fund raising for the day. Another friendly bank match coming up soon on Saturday November 10th. It's a fun and friendly day being run and organised by Jim Tuck, more details on the website later this week. A good forecast for the coming week so little change in the great sport expected, see you soon!! Jason Foster Weekly results week ending - 12th October 131 rods caught 558 fish rod av. 4.3 Finally it's good to report that things have come right - at last! An excellent week with fish everywhere at times, small dries, washing line with a small booby on the point and green buzzers or diawl bachs suspended very good too. A few fish on lures, black and lime green, cat's whiskers and appetisers all good. No particular best areas, with variable winds just drop in where's comfortable, fish moving all around when they're on. Best fish this week a lovely 9Ib+ blue to Arthur Roberts which was caught on a small dry Shipman's and released. A good turn out for the Toft Newton Cup/Fishing for Heroes event today. On a lovely frosty Autumnal morning 22 anglers ventured out for an early start. Fish were moving right from the off and happily taking dries, bit of a surprise in such cool conditions. A great day spoiled only slightly by a heavy shower towards the end. The 22 entrants caught 148 fish and well done to Sue Irons from Scunthorpe for taking the trophy. She caught 13 fish altogether retaining 6 of her best including the biggest of the match at 3Ib 10oz, the doubles evaded capture. Results 1. Sue Irons 11Ib 5oz 2. Martin Rowson 9Ib 14oz 3. Mick Angell 9Ib 9oz Fishing for Heroes qualifiers - Neil Deakin and Steve Turnbull Jason Foster Weekly results week ending - 5th October 91 rods caught 229 fish rod av. 2.5 An unfortunate drop back in the rod average this week, perhaps brought about by a few very bright and blustery days. During more suitable conditions then fish keen to chase on the surface with small boobies, dabblers and Shipman's. The last day or two and with a cooler feel they've been a little deeper with goldhead damsel, humungus and floating fry fished on intermediates all good. Bank sport really beginning to pick up now as the fish move nearer the margins. Best fish to John Tattersfield at 10Ib+ caught and released on a hopper. I've attached weather charts for September for info, bit of a glitch early in the month recording the data but you get the gist that it was a pretty windy month. Last call for the 'Fish for Heroes'/Toft Newton Cup on the 14th October - you can raise sponsorship to cover your entry fee and a donation to the charity OR just fish to try and win the esteemed Toft title and pay your entry of £35 on the day, which covers 6 fish ticket, pool entry and a beer at the presentation. Jason Foster Weekly results week ending - 28th September 87 rods caught 358 fish rod av. 4.1 Dare I say it......'think we've turned a corner'! A definite improvement in the fishing this week with more consistent weather and sport. Plenty of surface activity for bank and boat with fish looking for pretty much anything on or just under the surface. Flies pulled to make a wake appear best so opt for muddlers, mini boobies, daddies, palmers and dabblers. Best bank areas have been north west and south east corners in a mainly south to west wind and the boats best on the drift fishing short loch style. A few more on the fry now so perhaps make sure the floating fry or appetiser is on standby to tempt those often better, well mended fish, especially around the valve tower and boat ramp which is where the majority of fry hang out. Ted Wherry had a decent day again on Sunday fishing on the drift and landing a 10Ib+ rainbow which he caught on a corixa and released. The illusive doubles are still out there with quite a few reports this week of being smashed by a monster, I'd advise not fishing anything less than 8Ib breaking strain to try and avoid leaving gear in the fish and of course being disappointed. Don't forget the 'Fish for Heroes'/Toft Newton Cup on the 14th October - you can raise sponsorship to cover your entry fee and a donation to the charity OR just fish to try and win the esteemed Toft title and pay your entry of £35 on the day, which covers 6 fish ticket, pool entry and a beer at the presentation. Jason Foster Weekly results week ending - 21st September 66 rods caught 174 fish rod av. 2.6 Another mediocre week but over the last couple of days a gradual improvement. Perhaps the fish are adjusting to an Autumn pattern and lowering temperatures now as they become seemingly more active. It's still a tale of two halves however with the boat anglers still holding the advantage as fish seem keener to take out over deeper water. Some great sport fishing on the drift loch style, casting short and pulling dabblers, muddlers and small boobies through the wave. If you have to go a little deeper then try an intermediate with goldheaded damsel on the point and sparlky crunchers or diawls on the droppers. There are more and more fish extremely close to the bank now, at times just 2 or 3 metres out and these are best tempted by small dark coloured CDC patterns and with a lot of large daddies around this week try one of those too. One of the doubles mentioned last week came out at 14Ib 8oz to John Shaw and took an orange hot head lure next to the valve tower, we need to find the big ones now!! About the worst week rod numbers wise I can ever remember for this time of year, however with the fishing and the weather so up and down I can quite understand why. We've had a huge variety of conditions this last seven days, with last weekend being quite warm and bright with light winds, much cooler with temperatures about halving by Wednesday and to round the week off yesterday, we had constant cool wind of 20 to 30mph. This is far from good news for the fishing as you can imagine. Much nicer today, 18 degrees, 8mph South West wind which I hope is around for the week to come. The boats once again this week have had the advantage with fish happy to take dries over the deeper water, not too sure why? They are showing signs of moving in now with some quite obviously beginning to chase after the masses of fry. The usual patterns working well including daddies, had an email from Ted Wherry who fished from a boat last Saturday and caught the best of the week at 6Ib 8oz - 'Hi Jason,
Great day on Saturday most fish were caught drifting from the black pipe down to the North East corner, most fish were taken on Daddies but the fish tended to splash at large ones so went down to size 14 and started getting hook ups also small bobs bits. Fish in great condition . There was a combine working about 2 fields away which seemed to increase the daddy situation.

Very bright and at times hot week offering far from ideal conditions. Majority of the fish caught from the boats as they're out over deeper, cooler water. Even on bright days though fish fairly near the surface and happy to come up to large CDC dries, hoppers and spider patterns, fish on the drift for best results. Bank sport ok the duller days with the longer casters having an advantage. With today being the last day of hot weather, so the forecasters say, we hopefully will be in for a more productive week, watch this space.
